Been thinking about this and have no idea which way i will go...I had a 2nd Gen.
2010 Sport TRD Extra Cab..... Sold it to get a new Kitchen an this truck... Well worth it..

The 1st Gen is perfect for all my needs...

Depends on what new models Toyota has to offer 5 years from now.
Otherwise I hope to still be driving this one. Good question though.

as long as people keep up the maintenance we should be still seeing first gens in 10 years. I have a couple customers that still drive there toyota mini trucks from the 80s with a few new motors and over half a million miles one of which being 3/4 of a million miles and still running strong.

Really got me thinking, when i see what folks are getting for theses now...

You think Toyota will ever down size a truck?? It is the size, style that will be so hard to replace..

    Pretty much stock right now
I hope to have my 03 in five years, if the frame survives. If it fails while under warranty and is replaced, I would expect to still have it then, and a good number or years after. But if it were gone, I'd be looking at a 2nd gen. "Toyota been very very good to me".

Being an off-roader, pickings are getting slim in terms of new vehicles. Jeeps are about the only thing that still have a solid front axle. My plan is to get another 10 years out of my 1st Gen unless I decide to get an 80 series Cruiser or a 2nd Gen DCab.

I have a friend that works at Toyota. He has assured me with proper care and attention, I can easily get that second decade out of my truck.

20yrs from now the 1st gens will still be running. Parts will still be around. Just like I can find parts for cars trucks built in the 50's 60's 70's and so on.....

I would love to have a new tacoma with a turbo diesel engine, one that came stock that way so I wouldn't have to fuss with a swap. The US is lacking in this right now I think.

I have a buddy with a 1970 Bronco that is off road all the time. Lots of people off road older trucks... but yes to get them back to new condition is pricey. But for me my truck is for off road not a DD so new condition is not important. .

That's really tough to say. I'd love to have a complete donor truck from mine. Bonus points for same color.
Something like a totaled truck from a rear end/ t-bone collision.
I'd like to replace my cab eventually due to the flop almost 2 years ago now (wow how time fly's).
