V-6, Automatic, Double Cab, 4WD (2010 and 2005): 15-16 mpg in town and 17-19 mpg highway. California gas.

Of interest, I have been doing some side by side comparing mileage between using Costco (or ARCO), and Shell (or Chevron). I will post the data when I can, but I am finding I get 1-2 mpg better using Shell or Chevron over Costco or ARCO. This I attribute to Costco and Arco having the highest percentage of ETHANOL (Corn) in their gas?

In Mexico, where there is no ethanol added to gasoline (PEMEX), I always have the highest mileages even though I am loaded for camping and four wheeling.

So many variables on comparing MPG, such as 4x4, 4x2, 6 banger, 4 banger, shell, no shell, lift, stock, weight in bed, etc.

I have a 2014 4x4 SR5 6 with a shell. I was easy on the peddle for the first 1000 miles and didn't hall anything other than the shell. Got 16-17 MPH mixed driving. After the 1000 mile mark, I halled a bunch of stuff (heavy load) up to my cabin, went over 70 on the highway, passed slow pokes on the mountain road, and put on about 500 miles driving the rig "hard." Got 22.5 MPG. Go figure.

Why 93? I use 87 and get 16.8 mpg on the highway and no issues:confused:

The motor in 2nd gen trucks is not innovative to say the least, but it is a workhouse. The value for owners in the long run will be less trips to the shop for repairs, not less trips to the gas pump.

2013 DCSB 4x4 sport and I only get about 16 for daily driving. I got that good with my 2000 Chevy Ext cab 4x4 with a 5.3 V8.

I am disappointed that this truck doesn't do better. I canot see how anyone is getting 24 MPG with the V6.

I found a link on here about 100% gasoline. Maybe that will help.
I haven't tried it yet. My trucks new to me. About two weeks old.

I have to wonder if anyone claiming over 20 MPG on a V-6, 4WD is using a Scan-Gauge or real world numbers (gallons to fill tank/miles driven since last fill up)?

Let me answer that for you as I just got one...

    '14 crewmax 5.7L 4x4

So far 500miles on the truck. 70% city- 30% freeway driving, 343 miles and 20.6 gallons = 16.65mpg enjoying the power :) goodness me I love it!

prerunner yes, but 265/75/16 authorities, 2" lift, avid bar, sliders, loaded toolbox, and I went to Fresno with the girl, picked up her dad and luggage, brought him here, drove him back up to fresno 2 days later, came back home.... Some long decent grades, and plenty of passing under boost.

this was calculated via gallons used at each fill and entered into garmin GPS which does the math and uses correct distance traveled instead of the trucks odometer if that makes sense.

I figure its gotta be accurate right?

I don't know how your driving, but I get 19/ 21 in my 2012 DCLB sport w/topper on 93 octane. Worst I ever have seen 17. Only have 4100 miles on it. Now that's spring summer and fall. It's stored all winter. It's only for hunting and fishing. DD is an Lexus is350 awd.

One common theme I am hearing is guys saying how they can't go slower. Well that's your problem.

Think of it this way. If you are driving 65 mph and you slow to 45, you only need one third of the power you needed to drive at 65. If you go from 60 mph to 90 you need 2.6 times the power to overcome the wind resistance.

    Speed kills.........your gas mileage.

I am not saying drive 45 mph on the interstate, but I usually sit in the right lane between 55-60 and people drive around me. Just got 24 mpg and that was a mix of highway and city and hauling a couple of hundred pounds of Sheetrock to Mt Rainier.

    2.7 liter 4x4.

    :(

how is 55-60mph SAFE with a posted 65mph speed limit?

*jumping to speculation that posted limit is 65.

Here is AZ you would get a ticket from a LEO for that. Hindering the flow of traffic.

    This^^^

But IDK if an off road changes things due to the tires maybe being heavier?

When I was stock and with summer gas I did hit 22 once and hit 21 3-4 times when driving a lot of hwy miles. 22 was on a trip of all hwy. Calculated by using fuelly. You can look back through my fuelly if you'd like. I have recently stopped entering it. Got tired of fooling with it plus since lifting it I've kinda lost interest in doing it.

One reply had a higher CITY mileage than Hwy... How do you go that, uless you only drive 80-90 mph on the highway? It is stop and goes that eat the mileage (City/ town/ etc.). On the highway you can cruise at a constant RPM... I think it is about 2000 RPM doing about 70 mph. Higher will drop the mileage, and I do go higher (to keep from being rear-ended, lol). The Off Road is a tad heavier perhaps (rear locker weight?), but should be about the same as other 4WDs that are Sport, SR-5, or Base. 4 door (mine) is heavier than the others, sure... so trying to compare apples to apples.

It is interesting that the gap between City and Hwy. mileages is so little on the Tacoma (16 vs. 19)... when my wife's Corolla gets easily 36 hwy. but just 27 city... big spread.
