Lowered 3/4, debadged, led tails, projector headlights with hids, billet grill, blacked out windows, painted front and rear bumper and grill shell. Inside, 4 crappy 15's, suede wrapped headliner and door panel inserts, alpine double din, few painted pieces inside, and every led is either blue or white.
So you go through the sony deck to use that and it will show up on the ipad?

Here's my setup I just finished. OP's setup for $400 bucks is a deal for anyone interested. This is a hell of a lot of work and mine just snaps in from the front.

Don't even bother asking me to make one. Lots more pics in my build thread if you are interested but as I said unless you have the patience of a saint just order the OP's bezel.

Just an update, the jailbreak for iOS7 has recently come out so now with the Activator tweak when I turn the key and the iPad wakes up it skips the lock screen and goes right to the home screen, and when I turn the key off the iPad goes to sleep automatically without having to use the touch assist anymore! :) 100x better!

I'm still curious about using bt for hands free calling and how that integrates. Could you explain more about that please?

Holy christ you guys way over thought this one. You guys realize that aluminum is one of the best when it comes to releasing heat? Just run it and don't worry about heating issues.

I dont care about the dissipation properties of the aluminum on the pad. I'm worried about the deck that is enclosed behind the Ipad and all the wiring built into it.

Have you ever seen how hot the screen on a tablet can get when the display is maxed out and on for long periods of time? Mine gets hot enough that a fan blowing on the back (from inside the dash) would be beneficial. Throw a stereo back there that's also producing heat and a fan almost becomes a necessity.

They don't have an aluminum heatsink built into them for nothing brother ;)

Agreed, but they were also designed to be in open air in the front. What he has done is enclosed it without any sort of ducting to help extract said heat.
    Agreed

OP never see's the screen nor will he have to use the stereo for anything so I really don't think it would matter if the screen portion itself dies. The face itself is not the heatsink so even if it is encapsulated in a closed off area I really would say it does not matter. Those things are designed to be mostly enclosed in areas of high heat.

This is truly badass!!! My only concern would be how the iPad would fair with the sub-below winter tempatures of the Colorado mountains where I live....

Your main issue would be holding a charge without power. I've seen some people who hook up their charger to be on constant power. Or you set it up for the iPad to be easily removed and don't leave it in the cold.

Mine is set up to be easily removed but I've never had an issue with temperature. It never gets too hot, seriously you guys need to stop worrying about that haha. Having the iPad in the front is no different than if you were to install the deck like normal...the back of the deck is still in an "enclosed" area just like it is now. When you put your single/double din dash bezel in it closes everything off just like mine does with an iPad in it, so really you don't need to be going crazy about heat! :) Also, I live in southern Utah and over the last few weeks we had the temperature drop to single digits and it performed perfectly. Not a single issue from the cold. I've had this install in my Taco for a couple months now and have not had ANY issues with it with heat or anything so that argument can be dropped ;)

This guy might be in La La Land with that Unicorn he is riding on but you guys should listen to him about the whole heat thing. It is not a big deal. Stop freaking out.

Ok everyone, things with work have slowed down and I've decided I'm going to make some dash kits to sell! So here's what I'm going to do:

I am going to order enough stuff to make 5 kits to start off with, but before I can order the stuff I need 5 committed buyers at a $400 sale price. This will be for the dash kit only, iPad mini and CD deck are not included. Also, the only thing you would need to do in your dash is glue in 4 magnets, which will be included, and I will send pictures for where/how to best apply those magnets for maximum hold.

Also the dash piece will be painted black using high quality SEM paint and finished with a low-luster clear coat. I have no idea which silver best matches the Tacoma factory silver interior so am just going to stay away from it right now.

If you are interested then add your name to the list and once I have 5 committed buyers I will order the materials and get them made/shipped asap. For this first batch because I don't yet have the materials it may take up to 3 weeks to get them shipped out so please be patient. I will not ask for your money until they are done and ready to be shipped out, I just need to know I have 5 people committed :)

I will be checking in on the forum again later tonight to see if there is enough interest. If you have PM'd me before but don't make it on the list for the first 5 I apologize but will continue making these if there is still interest :) Thanks everyone!

    THE LIST:
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.

Couple months does not show the true test of an install. Mercedes test new vehicles for years before releasing them to the consumer. You are trapping heat within heat with this install. The true question is will that deck handle the abuse, only time will tell. Being that I live in the dez where interiors reach well over 150 degrees I would not trust it.
The computer is not enclosed as the deck is and I will freak out if I damn well want to:cool:

I am in. Question though is it powered with the USB cable? This is made for the 30pin connector? I am wondering are the new units the lightning charger? Also is the $400 price include shipping?

Everyone regarding this heat problem, couldn't you install the receiver say under the seat and or underneath the ac controls? Once I get the dash this is what I will be looking to do.
