Cutler gets 7yr $126m, with $54m guaranteed. What a stupid move with so many future all-pro QB's coming in this years draft. Now the bears have no money to sign any other good players...

Sure..that first year Troy Brown who was a great slot man, and David Patten who had a rebirth here. He didn't do a whole lot with the injuries, but when he wanted to play Terry Glenn was a stud.

Also more recently Welker, Aaron Hernandez, Gronk (much as he pisses me the fuck off)..Deion Branch..David Givens who just got injured too much..

Stupid move especially at his age. That said, to a point it makes sense. Chicago hasn't exactly kicked ass with QB in the draft lately. Don't get me wrong, still not worth that kind of guaranteed cash as I see it. Problem is the NFL is more pass-heavy now, between the league legislating some of the pass D out, the dearth of shutdown corners, and the backfield by committee.

Good as they were, I have to wonder if the 2000 Ravens could win the Super Bowl today. Good run and D/ST to be sure, but Trent Dilfer I dunno....

yeah, but what does that stat translate to in the NFL? bragging rights? certainly not a SB, since the people who broke it, didnt even win the SB the years they broke it...

I'm with you on Gronk pissing me the fuck off. It's the media's fault just as much as it is his own, but he aint very bright. I would trade him for Jimmy Graham tomorrow, if i had the chance.

Also, while receivers deserve a lot of credit, look at the 01 Pats, with Brady as basically a rookie, and wins the SB. That team was nothing special. Here's a fact for ya, Brees, Rodgers, and Peyton Manning all combine for 20 career post season wins, and 3 rings. Brady has 17 career post season wins, and 3 rings. Montana has 16 career post season wins, and 4 rings. While Montana and Brady can not be compared due to different times, different circumstances etc., of this era, Brady is the most winningest QB in the NFL. After 14 seasons, it doesnt matter who his receivers are, he makes them great, and keeps the Patriots a winning organization.

Cutler really is nothing special. I would not extend his contract, and take my chances. No one was banging his door down to sign him, so he's not going anywhere, why not sign him to a one or two year deal, for not a lot of money, and also sign a rookie QB for not a lot of money, and make a decision after next season. I realize the Bears want to win, want to be in the post-season etc., but I dont think Cutler is their answer.

Bragging rights sure, but nice stat to say the least. I agree it don't happen without some good players catching it of course.

I bet my ass and hat anyone would trade their TE for Graham. I'm just tired of Gronk being a freakin dumbass, especially when it seems the rule rather than the exception.

The 2001 Patriots had Troy Brown and Terry Glenn..nothing special? Can't agree with ya there. Patten I can give you, but he had a good enough year.

Cutler the most I'd have given is 3 yrs..if needed to keep him, only b/c as I mentioned prior Chicago doesn't seem to do well picking young QB talent. Plus in this day and age, you need a decent QB now not in 2 years.

Troy Brown/Terry Glenn combined for just about 1400yds in the 2001 season, Demaryius Thomas has 1430yds for this season alone, and Decker has another 1300yds. so yeah, im gonna go with Troy Brown and Terry Glenn being nothing special for Brady. Also, Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, Wes Welker, and Eric Decker combine for over 4300yds alone... 4 receivers in Denver combine for over 4300yds, while all of the receivers in NE who have ever played a game this season, combine for exactly 4343yds. Fuck, to go even further, all of the receivers for NE in 2007 only combined for just over 4800yds, add Moreno's stats to Denver for this year, and you're over that. 5 Broncos have done more than this years pats combined, more than double what the 01 pats did combined, and did more than the undefeated pats in 2007, combined. So yes, I'm going to stick with Brady not ever having what P. Manning has had, and still is a better QB...

Of course in 2001, they shouldn't have even gone to the SB.

I got Seattle at 7:1 on my preseason wager and so far it's still holding strong. Not as good as the 47:1 I had them at last year, but I'll still take it!

Not gonna make or break the argument, but don't forget Patten's 750 or so that year. That said they didn't have much at TE..Jermaine Wiggins, Rod Rutledge. Nuff said.

Think about the 2001 Patriots as well. They had a stout D so they leaned a lot on that versus being a 31 team.

In this example, I'd say the receivers helped make TFB better. The run game was not stellar with Robert Edwards, Patrick Pass, Kevin Faulk, Marc Edwards but it was adequate. I didn't look up the stats but I bet they caught a goodly amount of screen/swing throws too.

Now think about how the NFL in general was. You had more shutdown corner guys so it was a more balanced offense in general, before they started making it damn near impossible to defend the pass without a BS penalty every other play.

I don't love the guy, but Manning has had some damn good guys to throw to before. How many years did he have Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark? Coupled with Edgerrin James in the backfield, pretty good O in my eyes.
