Ok, I have to say Oklahoma just straight up out played bama that game. I am a bama fan too. Sucks to see McCarron go out like that.

Can't decide which game to watch, flipping back and forth. But in the Orange Bowl I've never seen a call like this. On 4th down Clemson was stopped just short of the first down, as the ball carrier went out of bounds got hit late. So they gave the ball to OSU and then backed them up the 15 yards? Seems like it should have been a first down for Clemson. Interesting as it was 4th down. IMO the penalty happened on the offensive play for Clemson so I think they should have kept the ball. Discuss.

I don't know the rule book well enough, but since it was a late hit, it was after the play was over.

I know that must be the rule they're going by, but it just seems logical that it was part of the play. I guess the big thing is that they call this consistently in that situation. Could potentially be a gray area. I just don't recall this happening before.

 

My only guess would be that it was a dead ball foul, so since the play was over, and it was 4th down, the change of possession had already occured. But...I don't really know.

 

This. It occurred "after the fact" that he was short. But, I agree at first I thought otherwise.
