Trucks are their cash cow... I'd never buy a shitty ass car or small SUV from them, but their big engines are extremely reliable. The GM 5.3 is bulletproof

100 percent agree. The Big 3 have been building trucks a long time and as you said, their most profitable vehicles. They aren't going to push out a crap model as all it will do is lead to loss of market share...small cars, SUVs, and trucks are where they lack.

Although Ford did not need money from the $80 billion bailout program, Ford did receive $5.9 billion in government loans in 2009 to retool its manufacturing plants to produce more fuel-efficient cars, and the company lobbied for and benefited from the cash-for-clunkers program — contrary to the ad’s testimonial that Ford is “standing on their own.”

After the previous gen Colorado, not everyone will be as quick to buy this 2nd gen as some think. The 1st gen was garbage, why wasnt a 2012 or 2013 model sold again? I know three people that have had major problems with them. Give it some time when this 2nd gen comes out for a year or two. I really do not see anything that blows my mind away. The interior still has that cheap GM look to it.

The Colorado is not going to change the segment over night. Tacoma will still outsell it IMO.

I am not going to say you sound like a troll, but you sound like a troll.

Provide evidence and I will take that statement back. But i do agree, they will probably stick a small v8 in...sometime in the future...then they will see how badly it sells and stop offering the engine.

This is the most promising competition there is for the Tacoma, as well as the most interesting mid size on the market now.

I think Toyota will step it up yet still keep it bland.

After 6 years and 90K miles I love my Tacoma liked the day I bought it. But, let all be honest. It needs improvements. Drum brakes, low power and bad gas mileage can all be improved. I bought a travel trailer about 180 miles from me. I got 18 mpg going up and less than 14 mpg returning. I weighed the trailer coming back and it was only 2,600 lbs. No mountains involved either. I never passed 65 mph and mostly kept it below the posted speed limit. I could do a lot better with a full size truck for a couple grand more. Again, I love my truck, but to say Toyota should do nothing to improve would be like burying your head in the sand. IMHO.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got. Others will improve.

Came from an i5 Colorado and a v8 colorado. Oddly, the i5 had so many problems. Window motors kept going out. Electrical gremlins. Head lamps kept getting very spotty and filmy. Paint through body had irregularities. Clear was coming off. Despite being bought new. Never seeing rain. And always being parked in the garage. Dealer was always fixing something. The 5.3L v8 was quick and fun to drive. The wife put sparco seats in, matched steering wheel. Cragar wheels, that bear or however it's spelled brakes. Led taillights. Hid on the peepers, was a very fun little truck. But was ridden of when she went to a new Raptor.

I just can't like or enjoy the Colorado like I'd like. Seems to me the new one is ripping off the tacoma. And after that i5 we had, left much to be desired. My wife keeps poking fun if they ever released a 5.7L tacoma? Shed love the brand more lol.

Haha reminds me of when I was looking for a Chevy. Checked out a Colorado. (used) Window broke when I rolled it down. Lights didn't work. Seat was fucked. Checked a couple other dealerships for a used Chevy as well as gmc's and everything was trash. The used car guy had to point me to the tacoma parked away from everything. I thought it was a salesmans truck. Needless to say it was the best thing they had on their lot and I bought it. Says a little bit about them.

It really comes down to "will it sell?" imo. A lot of people in the market for a new truck aren't on this site, and don't have the same experience, research etc. of Toyota and Tacomas. For a lot of people, if they like what the seat feels like, the "you're driving out of your lane dumb ass" alerts, and the power/mpg they'll buy it.

I couldn't be happier with my Tacoma, but I was just a little surprised that it didn't have any of the amenities a lot of cheap cars come standard with now. It sounds like the Colorado will have a lot of those. It sounds like they focused on power and MPG. Always nice to see some competition!

Now that I own a tacoma, even for just a couple of months, I wouldn't consider anything else.
But when I was looking around? I probably could have been persuaded, and frankly, from someone who was (until I found this $ite :) ) only interested in a 4x4 truck... I'm sure there's a lot of potential sales out there like me!

The more troubling question is wtf is Nissian going to do now? :p

When I'm ready to get another truck (5 years maybe), I'd look at it...... If there's any other manufacturer that I'd buy, it would be a Chevy.

It would be definitely a comparison between the two. Capabilities & Cost. The new Colorado is a nice looking truck.

Toyota needs to STEP IT UP. My 07 doesn't even have power seats - and that's pathetic. I don't even know if the newer trucks have that yet. Really? And...... the Colorado will offer a Diesel. THAT WILL HURT Toyota.
