I am going to be purchasing my cousins 2005 Tacoma 2wd that currently has 94,000 miles on it and I needed some advice on possible wear and tear/maitenence items that might need to be replaced? How long do tacoma engines usually last for? His model his a 4.0 liter V6?

At 94,000 miles that Tacoma is just a baby! Do a search for some of the threads here on the forum. Some members are reporting 200,000 miles and above on their vehicles.

Good luck with your NEW, Tacoma.

Bah, 94k ain't nothing. That truck's still a baby! You'll be completely fine. These things last pretty much forever. Plenty of guys (and girls) up here that have 250k+ on their Tacomas.
What kind of use did this truck see? Was it used to haul anything? Lots of highway miles, or city miles?

In about another 100,000 miles you have a chance of the catalytic converter going bad but as long as you don't live in California youll be fine. These vehicles regularly get to 200,000+ without any signed of slowing down.

Mileage is a good indicator but wouldn't base everything solely on that. Maintenance is key. If one owner had 100k miles and only changed the oil 5 times versus another with 100k mileage and had regular 5k oil changes, which one would you buy? Hard to find the maintenance schedule from a stranger but hopefully your cousin can tell you his. Have fun with the truck.

    .
Welcome to TW, at that mileage I would probably look to have the tranny flushed pretty soon, the radiator flushed pretty soon, the V belt could probably be looked at as well. Other than that, as long as the oil changes were done on a pretty regular basis and the truck was not abused, as long as you continue to take care of it you should get many more miles out of it.

Still new at 94k dude. If i was to say i would check or change anything, it would be the oil. That truck is pretty bullet proof.

Thanks everyone for the replies, he mainly used the truck to drive to work in back and most of the miles are highway. I was thinking about possibly upgrading the shocks to bilstein 5100's all the way around it does already have a leveling kit. Is this a good idea? He seemed to have done regular mateince and oil changes.

I assume the leveling kit is probably a spacer. If you upgrade to the 5100's, just set it .85" or 1.75" as it is height selectable for the fronts and get rid of the spacer for a better ride.

    .
Yes and Toyota in their wisdom claims the fluid is good for 100K which I can tell you from qualified sources is BS. If the truck was anything more than absolutely babied, it probably should be flushed and changed by 100K if not less.

When you had the tranny flushed and fluids changed how much did it run you? or did you do it yourself?

There's a DIY for the drain and fill but it's no flush. I would say Toyota would charge $200-$300 for this.

I didnt flush just drained it and filled her back up. Ya did it all on my own, its almost exactly like the oil change but for the v4 you fill through the dipstick (i know its sounds crazy but thats how you do it). If you want I can take some pics and post but it should be very simple.

94k miles is nothing! both of my tacomas, both 2006, have 215k and 247k miles.
