I was not going to be able to make the '14 trip due to a family trip to Hawaii...but we recently canned the Hawaii idea and are back to the drawing board! I suggested Zion, arches and all the other cool stuff in Utah and everyone seems to be interested. Regardless, I will probably be able to make the trip this year after all!!! And if stuff works out, I will probably have a HC rear bumper and perhaps a front locker.

 

You don't have a front locker? Am I retarded or something?

 

Nope, not retarded. I have an ARB in the rear but nothing up front yet.

I'm hoping to make it this year, ended up on fires last year so we'll see what happens.

 

Oh yeah but I don't have a differential locker up front. The diff locker makes it so both tires turn constantly instead of letting one tire spin faster than the other. It helps when you have a tire off the ground or on loose dirt, power goes to both tires, meaning the tire with traction still spins. With an open diff or LSD the tire with least resistance gets the power.

 

I have been going for 2 years now with just rear locker and no problems. If you are planning on front locker anyways go for it but don't let it stop you from going cause you will be fine without it.

 

You don't need a front locker in MOAB the rear locked will be just fine. My truck did everything in its path just locked in the rear. This year will be a little different with the new mods that have been done since the last trip.

 

I did fine in Moab last year with just the rear locked, but there were a few times it would have been nice. I do like the challenge of getting through a tough obstacle without using the locker(s) though. I have to get my bumpers squared away first anyway. But if I get them both done and have some cash to spend I might get that done. Then again, soundproofing the cab and upgrading the stereo might need to come before the locker for the reasons you guys already brought up. An offroad trailer might be a cool project to start up too, one with a RTT so that I can just leave all the gear behind when I am ready to wheel.

 

Yea I haven't seen a front locker prove itself useful yet on the rigs I have seen with them.

I has no lockers and get by juuuuuust fine out there (not that I don't want one and it would not help me run harder trails)

 

Most of the trails are pretty much like pavement anyway, just not flat lol

 

Exactly, unless you are flexed out and 2 or 3 wheelin, traction is usually not an issue. There is a fair amount of sand though, and combined with not all of the wheels on the ground is where you can get into trouble.

well that's on a whole different level from what 95% of the attendees will be doing haha. When you are doing trails like that, then ya. A front locker is pretty darn useful

Exactly! Moab slick rock has more traction than basicially every other type of surface you will wheel on.

 

Is that due to all the rubber people have burned onto some of the rocks?
