    Trying to find the post but what I gathered from reading a bunch is that they don't solve the problem where the failure point is right at the clamp. Better off just doing the boot slide mod that stretches it out so the first ridge isn't "pressing" on itself, towards the clamp. But, again, this is what I gathered from reading a bunch. No direct experience.

    Here's the inner boot on the passenger side, getting ready to tear:

    What I gathered, just have to move the clamping point further down the shaft, stretching out just to the right of the clamp, so it won't crack right there.

    125k miles on those boots so no complaints about the stock ones from me.

    The boot slide mod I found just put more stress on mine at the clamps I found. But still held for a while

    Well, shit. Damn IFS lifting problems. :D

    Right now, I can't even get the tripod off the one I'm working on. Once I get to the point where I'm putting the boots on, I may just put them on like stock. The originals lasted quite awhile.

    Very excited to see the fed ex man today. Other than husky liners, i have just been doing preventative maintenance since i got the truck last January.

    Edit: i guess picture isn't going to show up, 2.0 saws were delivered.

    Pretty much stock with some crap welded to it.
    What're your guys feelings/suggestions about cleansing or power washing your engine, I went to the salt flats a bit ago and there's done dry salt I want to spray off, any suggestions?

    Not today, but over the past week I upgraded the alternator to a 140 amp GM CS144 model, welded on Mercer Fabrication frame reinforcement plates, installed a Trail Gear u-bolt flip kit and relocated the rear shocks.

    A huge thank you to Monte at Frankenstein Fabrication for all the expertise and help with doing all these mods. :thumbsup:

    Go to the do-it-yourself car wash and use low pressure.

    Any salt is bad. Corrosive, it is.

    Very water soluble. Just a good rinsing should take care if it.

    So you wouldn't pressure wash it? Just use the rinse setting? Would you cover the cold air intake filter and the battery? Also would you worry about the engine being hot when I spray it wi that coltish water?

    salt is very, very water soluble. A rinse or low pressure setting should do fine. High pressure in the engine bay is a bad idea in my opinion. You don't want to force water into places it shouldn't go.

    Don't know what FIPK filter you are using. The aFe one I use is actually recommended to wash using soap and water every so often.

    The battery, I wouldn't worry about. Should be sealed.

    If you are worried about the cold water on a warm block, open the hood and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. This time of year in Utah, won't take long to cool off.

    Rinsing off with low pressure water is about the same as plowing through a decent puddle. Hell, I still have mud stains on the underside of the hood from monsoon season.

    Yeah I usually just use the DIY carwash and use the pressure wash setting without pulling the handle to clean anything in the engine bay.
