There is a clip you have to take off before the tulip slides off. It's kind of hidden. With a brass drift or rubber mallet hit the tulip down and it will help to reveal the clip. Make sure you're not hitting the bearings when moving the tulip. Hit the tulip itself. The body of it all.

I've done the boot slide mod as we'll but with a little addition. On the boot there is 2 sides the big side and the small side both where a clamp goes to hold them on. On the small side of my torn or old boot I cut the part off where the clamp goes. To act as a spacer. This fits in the little grove on the cv like it's supposed to. Slide your new boot on. Then this new rubber spacer you've just made. Then put one of the small clamps on the spacer to keep it locked in the grove and prevent it from slipping up. Then a new clamp on the new boot top and bottom and it's done.

The spacer in place clamped down keeps the boot from sliding up into that grove on the cv. Without something in that grove acting as a spacer the boot will just want to slide in there since that's where it's supposed to go.

I've done this with all my tacos and it's kept them from dying early from rubbing on itself. When they have died it was from a cv break, or branch.

Thanks for the reply. Figured this out after talking to a friend and finding a writeup around 10pm last night but I appreciate the tip. Would've been a good read first thing in the morning after struggling with it like I did yesterday. :)

There are clips around the perimeter. You can buy a tool at the auto parts store to pry them out carefully or you can just use a screwdriver with tape on it.

    take the sail panel off.

    Remove armrest screws.

    Remove door handle screw.

Slide to unlatch the door handle.

Pop the electric window/lock panel at the leading edge, slide forward to remove. Unhook the 2 wiring harnesses (if you have pl/pw)

Pop the 9 panel fasteners. (2 towards the dash, 4 along the bottom, 3 along the outer edge of the door) Fastener locations are where the little squares are cut out from the sound proofing material:

    IMG_6422_zpsb6ae1013_36093d83da63a4a3e0212026ece904c62597a6b8.jpg

Tilt door panel ~30 degrees up from the lock tab and, at the same time, angle the door handle and finagle the door panel off.

Saved me a lot of typing time! This is exactly the way to do it. You won't break any clips if you are somewhat careful.

Found a better suited washer bottle for my relocation, it's from a Kia Sportage. Fits great and the washer motor swaps over from the Tacoma perfectly. Made a bracket to level it out and still need to make a base for when it's full to help support the weight.

Fasteners are Toyota Part # 90467-A0005

I have a bag of 'em. I break them all the time. And the new ones seem easier to break than what was in there.

I had my door panels off several times and didn't break any. I just pried close to the fastener and slowly popped them out.

The first few times, I was able to remove without breakage. Alas, a couple have broken and the new ones take way less to break. Fasteners are cheap though.

BTW, if your age is correct, I bought my truck when you were 11 years old. Crazy shit, eh? :)

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
Degreased the engine for the first time. That oughta get me another 5hp or so. :D

Washed it too, so that should cut down on the wind drag and make for a smoother commute.

Haha damn you're old! Just kidding. You know what's funny is when I was 12 years old I drove my old green tacoma I had. My grandma owned it before I bought it from her, and she lived in bumfuck Montana so we were driving all out there over when we were young.

I love me some snow, but man do I hate driving the next morning after parking outside overnight. So many creaks and cracks and frozen things haha.

Ha! That's pretty crazy. Toyotas are awesome like that.

Living near or on ranch and farmland has its advantages. Several of my friends growing up had been driving since they could touch the pedals.
