Never getting rid of mine. It is like wine.... Gets better with age.

Paid off + 10,000 in additions so far. My son loves it and he is 7. I told him daddy was going to give it to him as his first vehicle.

My main complaint about buying a 2012-13 is it has 10+ year old motor, while the tundra and runner had at least updates for power increase on the 4.0, tacomas do not. If there were hp or torque gains, I would, but other wise I would keep my older taco for a few extra years and wait till something more comes out of that engine bay that is a little more competitive to the 270-300hp engines now coming out from Toyota, ford, Chevy etc, and yes I know not all these engines are in trucks, but I hope that the taco gets something with a little more oomph... Or if you get one with a supercharger.. Then it would be a gain. My .02,

While I ended up buying a 2014 I agree with you. Given the choice I would have held off for, among other things, an updated higher performance engine with direct injection. For my needs (over the next 5 years) it was going to be either keep my 07 or buy the 2014.

My 2007 just hit 100K miles, if things go as planned I'll be putting 35K miles a year on my daily driver each year for the next 5 years. I no longer have the time to repair my own vehicles and I have a couple of very agressive financial objectives I am targeting. While there are no guarantees, I can't think of a better vehicle I'd rather count on to give me 175K trouble free miles over the next 5 years.

One more thing, I'm no audio connoisseur and my wifes SRX (for example) is equipped a lot nicer. My 2014 Tacoma, however, happened to have the JBL Entune Nav system (with a great iPhone interface) and heated leather seats. Add the overall firmer seats with a slightly different seating position Toyota started including in the 2012 trucks and I can tell you I couldn't be more pleased. Dated or not, with its proven reliability and fuel economy, for my money therre isn't a truck in its class that can touch this new Tacoma!

Looked at the 2014 yesterday, not much change, but the addictive "New Car Smell" is like an aphrodisiac.

Still, just about finished getting mine the way I like, so not for a bit yet

If I listened to the dealer I bought my truck from I should trade every 2 years! I bought a Toyota not a Chevy I kind of expect it to be good for 10 years/200,000 miles.

I always felt older trucks are more fun to own, assuming you're happy with it for your needs. You get to wrench on it, build up the aftermarket parts on it, and work all the bugs out of it.

As others have mentioned, I would keep it until the redesign comes out to see if different engine / tranny options are offered.

I'm gong to stretch mine till the fall, and if no redesign, get a '14. It'll have 120k or so, all fairly hard miles, so time for it to retire...

I'm keeping mine because it's not likely it will be worth it to trade for a remodelled Taco. Unless the power gains and mileage are a huge improvement, the redesign is very nice and I don't take too big of a hair cut in trade in value, then I might consider it.

Most likely going to wait and see what Honda does with the new Ridgeline as well. A teaser photo recently released suggest it will be a real body on frame truck this time not that Unibody SUV with a box thing they have out now. I don't hate the Ridgeline as it does have a nicer/bigger cabin and the 2 way tailgate, underbed storage is really nice but it's not as good as the Taco at what a truck is supposed to be good at: payload, towing, offroad. Besides that, it's butt ugly if you ask me. There's not much details out just yet but I work at the plant in Ontario that used to build the Ridgeline so I'm hoping I can pry some info out of someone soon about it. It's not like I prefer Honda over Toyota, it's just that I can get a great deal on a Honda so if its a competitive build that looks good then I'll want to give it some consideration.

I agree that Ridgeline's are ugly, poor offroad, and only 5,000 lb towing capacity. However, the payload is 1500 lbs, which is where i feel the DC Tacoma should be.

I would love to get a new truck.... But... Only cuz I'm super weird. I like the new steering wheel design, and the led tailights, and the side mirrors with blinker lights.

    I'd like to have a v6 and 4x4.

But I think I'll hold onto this 2006 2wd 4banger access cab until it dies, then I'll probably rebuild it, throw a locker in the back and some long travel (of course I'm dreaming this, I'll probably never be able to afford it hahaha)

    ... I'm at 242k mi now. :)

True, the Taco does need some after market help for those weak leaf springs. That said, I still find the LB on my DC much more useful than the tiny box on the Ridgeline. I'm hoping for both a body on frame build and a larger box option for the new Ridgeline, time will tell I guess.

I'm right there with you. I love the new steering wheel and instrument cluster. That would be the main reason for trading in my '07. That and heated leather seats.

Mine is just over 4 years old and I've been toying with the idea of trading up. 53k on it. Really want to hold out til a redesign and then get one with a manual trans. Seriously the only reason I am even considering it.
