2012 Mirror into 2009+ Truck, wiring in TEMP/Homelink

If you have any other troubleshooting ideas let me know. I can measure lines/voltages on my V6 and we can compare. There's got to be a way to get this working for the 4 cyl guys.

Someone with a 4 cyl, measure the resistance value of the thermistor at the AC amplifier connector. It should match the values in this chart.

Here's what we know:
AC amplifier the same between models
Thermistor the same between models
Straight shot (no added resistance) between AC amplifier and mirror


Going off what we know above, ONLY place left is between the thermistor and AC amp. If that's not it, then one of the above is incorrect! Going off the repair manual and wiring diagrams the AC amplifier is the culprit. I have seen the repair manual be wrong before though!

Let me know if I'm missing something here.

 

I doubt they would design it that way. For a temperature display circuit like this (reading resistance values) you want both legs of the thermistor going directly into the circuit for the most accurate readout. What happens if the ground bolt gets corrosion on it, or loosens? Now your temperature readout is off because the resistance just went up. If someone wants to try it they can, but I don't think it will work.

 

Any more work on this subject or is this a dead horse?

 

Ok so I just tested the mirror in my truck... No temp readout. 2010 double cab V6 that originally had the temp sensor. I'm determined to figure this out lol

 

It's definitely the signal it's receiving. I froze the temp sensor in an ice cube tray and the temp readout worked. See below. The display went back to dashes around 124°F.

Also if I remove the sensor and temp install it directly to the AC amp (bypassing whatever wires are between the engine compartment and AC amp) the results do not change

The AC amp I have is 88650-04020. Pictures below.

 

So anyone here in San Antonio TX or Little Rock AR with a 2012 want to pull their AC amp and swap to see if it works?

Well I said to hell with it and sold my 2012 mirror and installed the GENK3320S model mirror which has temperature, compass, camera display and auto dim but no homelink. Bought it off an ebay seller copper_z71 (Bob's Automotive Mirrors & More LLC) who was great to deal with. He also sold me an adapter that allowed the mirror to plug into the existing overhead cables to get rear camera to work. The temperature was read by a separate sensor, included with the mirror, installed at the front of the truck.

Everything works when I tested it today, on one of the coldest days of the year (-34 degrees celsius when I drove the truck around the block).

 

You didn't mention that it had the screen display on the mirror. Did it display because if the adapter or you just forgot to mention the display capability

The adapter allows one to plug directly into the overhead wires which allows the stock camera to work using the existing wiring harnesses.

 

So the harness is a replacement for the OEM harness?

 

Read the post. I stated it plugs into the existing harness. Key words "plugs in".

 

Has anyone figured out a solution to this at this point? I have the dumb flip mirror on my 2014 and bought a mirror from a 2013... thinking it would just be plug and play much like the 2012/13 are however apparently in 2014 they stopped running all the wires to that plug...

 

Ok so I have an 09 v6 access cab and can't get my temp readout to work and I'm about over this project. I have a gentex 957 with 3.3" screen temp and compass display. Hooked it up everything works but the temp display, just getting the 2 dashes. Bought the extra pin and ran a wire from the yellow overhead display and plugged it up and still just the 2 dashes. The green with red trace on the very bottom is the one I added

 

Anybody care to weigh in?

 

Since literally nobody weighed in I contacted gentex directly and they're looking for what kind of signal it's looking for on the mirror side...

Did u get the reading for the temperature?

 

Negative but I haven't tried hooking it up since its been really cold to see if it will show any temp. Pretty much think it's a thing of the right resistance man but it's super complicated trying to figure out the correct resistance though....

I've literally spoke with friends who are electricians in electrical engineers and they're like. " uh man that's a real head scratcher" lol but they give me serious props for how far I got

 

I pulled my fully functioning Homelink mirror from my 2012 4x4 AC and installed it in my 2009 X-Runner. Once installed, I used the menu in the mirror to turn off the compass display as I already have that and the temp displayed in the overhead console. The backup camera and the auto diming works, but I can't get the Homelink buttons to work. They worked fine when the mirror was installed in the 2012, but do nothing now that the thing is installed in the 2009. I even tried erasing the codes by pressing and holding the 1 and 3 buttons, but the indicator light never flashed. Any ideas? I may try swapping it back into the 2012 just to see if Homelink starts working again for some reason.
