The front of the house is fine, just the back has less pitch. Hoping I didn't damage it underneath with the leak..

    Probably...

Or maybe not. Sometimes it's hard to tell, isn't it?

I deleted my post asking for some TW facebook bombings of a contractor that owes me $$$. I posted on his page and he replied that he wants to do the right thing and pay up

Sitting at Valenti Toyota; was looking for a bed storage compartment door, drove around back and saw about 20 new 2nd Gen frames out in back of the dealership.

Apparently there's another voluntary frame recall for 05+'s...

Truck's on the lift now - they offered to check it out for free.

    Great....
The frame on my '10 is spotless (After the experience with my '99, I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't), but I'm still getting it Ziebarted in the spring. We had a Civic that was ziebarted when it was new, and it was 14 years old when we traded it in on the girlfriend's Honda Fit. 250k and not a speck of rust.

So I am assuming it was worth it then? Have any rough cost ideas? Any other experience with it you want to share?

My rig is fine, they're actually a good bunch of guys. Service Manager brought me back into the shop, BS'd about my truck, Alaska.. etc.

Showed me three of the trucks that they are currently doing a frame replacement on: 2002, 2004 and a 2006. The '06 was the only one with the original frame still, literally had holes in the section right aft of the engine, by the catalytic converters. Seriously looked like a 25 year old truck that had been dipped in salt water.

Said between Tacomas and Tundras that they've done over 400 frames.

Very, very glad I'm thousands of miles away from the salt out in WA..

I don't know where you are but if you're in New England you just went out of the oven and into the frying pan! They salt the shit out of the roads up here also. There have been a handful of cases on TW of 2nd Gens getting their frames replaced but they all had to fight with the dealership to get it done.

I'm familiar with salt and rust.. grew up in Rhode Island.

Actually had a 2000 SR5 that I paid $9k for that Toyota bought back for $15,580.. That was under the '95-'00 recall program a few years ago.

Yeah, it's pretty wild - I'm wondering what it is that affects these trucks so much. If Toyota still hasn't mastered the metallurgy, or what?

Totally worth it. We bought the car used with about 120k on it in 2005, so it was already Ziebarted at that point. Since it didn't cost us a dime, it was great!
The only complaint I had about it was that it made it hard to do some suspension work on the car. I had to replace the rear suspension bushings at about 180, and before I could get the bolts out I had to take a utility knife and shave the Ziebarting coat off of the bolt heads so that I could get my sockets on.
Other than that, I had no complaints about it.
I think Ziebarting usually runs around $500, but I'm pretty sure there's a couple of people on here who've had it done on a Tacoma and could give a better cost estimate.

Nothing to do with the steel itself, the steel from any manufacturer will rust if untreated. Frames rusting out within 100k miles is just Toyota's unwillingness to use a suitable product to protect the frame. With the 1st Gens, some of it is also that the trucks have just been on the road soo damn long that whatever coat was there, just wore off over time.

Yeah, that's what I pretty much concluded..

Most of the armor on my rig was sandblasted and painted with Devoe marine zinc primer; then a two part epoxy paint. If I was getting my frame replaced out here, I'd contemplate having the replacement one treated the same way.

Previous owner put those sleeves to make regular billies extended... problem is when I use the truck and extend the shocks the threads stripped. Finally popped out... with quite a loud bang!

The frames were and still are being built by Dana here in the US. They were shipped over to Japan without being painted. All the time on the ships being delivered over there without treatment. That is why they all rused out.
