Haha ya it took a lot of convincing to get them to head down it. Where the red truck was was super sketchy but he didn't care lol

Well in other news started my new job today :) All the way down in Renton which is going to be about a hour and a half long drive in the morning. looks like a move may be in the future! saw a ton of tacomas though on my way in this morning. Makes me wonder if I'll run into anyone from here in this new territory!

Also I have started pricing out costs to fix my truck. I also talked to a friend who works at a bidy shop and he is gonna give me a deal on straightening my frame back out once i have the cash to do so! Cant wait for her to be fixed again!

Renton isn't THAT far, but then again, the 405 in the AM can be brutal.

I used to drive from Chula Vista, CA to Rancho Santa Margerita, CA daily = 1 tank o' gas. That was for two months.

Another job, I used to drive from downtown San Diego, CA to Irvine, CA daily; until I discovered that Amtrak was nearly door to door service.

522 to 405 or even drop 203 straight into Kirkland and take other back roads from there. What is your start time for an hour and a half commute? I could make it from my place to Renton in about an hour.

Omg that's crazy! I'm in Monroe so it's a bit of a journey haha 94 mile round trip today but I took back roads :) newcastle is right around the corner from Renton! My good friend lives there in Newcastle and I might stay with her a couple times a week or get a commuter car...yuk!

I took 203-> I90-> 900 -405 then my exit it two exits south of 900. Only took me an hour to get home and I left work at 5:15. I left this morning at 7:15 to make sure I was there by 9 an I got there at 8:45. I'm gonna take a few different ways to see what works best but I'm going to avoid 405 at all costs lol

Blow up doll not quite fully inflated with a hoody on, so the head sags against the seatbelt in you passenger seat and ride the carpool lane on 405.

I don't run the freeway around those hours, so I can't say this works for sure, but generally it is a little faster to sit through the freeway crap unless the freeway is really FUBAR. I was working nights in Redmond, just off the east end of 520 with a 6 pm start time. I tried going i5 to 405 to 520 and got stuck almost every time in traffic from a little north of Canyon Park to just before 522 poured in. Also tried highway 9 all the way down, 203, and a few other routes. The one I found most effective for that time of day was 522 to 405 to 520. Try running 405 sometime and see how that does for you, but don't go out to i5 to get there.

Before getting a commuter car, think about how long it will take to make up the cost. If you get a $2000 car at 30 mpg and $3.50/gallon gas compared to 18mpg from your truck, that is 12mpg difference, plus insurance goes up for adding another vehicle, and maintenance on the second car. Those numbers come out to 29¢ per mile difference. You are now talking about 7000 miles of commuting to break even on gas alone, probably closer to 13-15k miles to break even.

If you think you will keep this job for a year or more with that commute, it can be worth it, but if you move closer in, then just keep it on the truck.

Thanks for doing the math for me :) this will hopefully be a long term, career building job. everyone there has been there for a long time. But only time can tell that! Not gonna jump straight to the commuter car, since I'd rather not. But then again it would keep miles off the Tacoma as well. Moving closer may also be an option later on. There is a lot to think about option wise but I'm not in any hurry to decide. Just happy to be back at a good job again. When I looked at the traffic report this morning before leaving all the major highways were in yellow an red and the way I took was green the entire way. I didn't hit even an ounce of traffic on the way home, and got stuck in about 5- 10 min of traffic total this morning. Plus the drive was beautiful through the valley. But I'm gonna keep trying different ways to see what is gonna work best!

Not sure if it would work or not but have you thought about the Metro. I keep miles off the truck by taking the bus. It is a major hassle and with all the service reductions lately it sucks even harder but it is viable for me and does help keep mileage down.

Just a thought - they have good routing tools on their website:

    http://metro.kingcounty.gov/

Probably won't work but just throwing it out. I live in Bellevue and work in Downtown Seattle so there are lots of routes. YMMV.

    Congrats on the job!!

Thanks! Definitely have thought about it. My only thing is I have to take my dog to work with me until I find another arrangement an not sure metro would appreciate a 120+lbs Rottweiler on the bus lol but once I figure out something to do with him it's something I'm going to consider as well :)
