I'm getting close to buying tires for my Tacoma 4wd TRD OR. I like the BFG TA KO. I recently got two quotes, one for $1000 and another for $930 OTD.

One of the places told me the tires are 10 ply. If I remember correctly that's a heavy tire. I'm wondering if tre tires comes with less plies. I'm looking for 265/70/17 tire I also don't want to kill my MPGs and I'm afraid a 10 ply tire will do so.

My BFGs are load range "C" so they are not a heavy load tire. don't remember the ply count on them but its enough for me and what I do.

I believe it is a 10 ply tire. Check tirerack.com, they usually have how much a tire weighs. Good way to compare what you have to what you want to get.

BFG makes a C load and an E load in this size,The C is going to ride better and weigh less.E load is overkill unless you are hauling heavy very often. Also check out the General Grabber AT2,similar tread pattern long lasting and appx $40 cheaper per tire..As ace96 said you can go to Tire rack and see the specs on the tires..

Almost all tires only actually have 2-3 sidewall plys. So even if you are buying a 10 ply tire, there are not physically 10 plys in the sidewall. I would try and look for a load C range tire if you want to not kill your ride quality and save gas. Load E despite what some people may tell you, is way too much for these little V6 trucks. Load E tires are designed to run on Quad Cab diesels and F250 with goosenecks hauling loads in excess 12,000+ lbs.

I think you would be OK, but it really depends on if you are running stock wheels or aftermarket, Back Spacing and what not. I had 265/70/17, on stock wheels, no lift, I did not rub at all. Put on a suspension and different wheels and I had a rub on the front mud flaps with the same tires. Trimmed mud flaps and added caster. Too many variables to say you will not rub, but at that size you should be OK.

There are two BFG AT/KOs in that size. The E and the C rated. The E are 10 ply and quite stiff, and a bit heavier. The C are three ply and more compliant.

Mostly, it won't matter much - beyond weight - but if you offroad in situations where airing down is necessary, the stiffer sidewall will provide less flex.

I run the 265/70/17 in the C rating and have for the past 20,000 miles. Great tires. I've been very happy with them.

If you have Amazon Prime, you can usually find a good deal on them. I got mine for 212 dollars per tire (free shipping! haha!), and had all 5 mounted for 100 bucks more at the place down the street.
