A band of freezing rain is going over our area. It's getting pretty nasty outside, and will probably cause a few accidents.

You guys up in PA and NY stay dry tonight and warm tomorrow.

It has been rain or mist all day here. Supposed to have rain turning to ice then bitter cold tomorrow.

You will be getting some cold weather as well. Not too common in SC or FL.

Gotta run and spend some time with the family.

I remember the first time I went to Florida. It was March, 1980. Of course, I expected fairly warm, if not hot, temperatures. I froze my a$$ off. The temperature never got above the low 60'sF. I hadn't brought "cool weather" clothes so I had to buy some. It was probably warmer back in Ottawa! :( The only other time I went to Florida during the winter, it was very nice....temps in the mid 80's. Okay, I could live with that.

Interestingly, I was staying with my aunt who lived in Clearwater. She had a backyard pool that was closed for the winter. Winter! For pete's sake it was in the mid 80's. Even more surprisingly, the local store clerks were all wearing wool suits, etc. Even though the tourists were in tee shirts and shorts, I guess for the locals it was "winter." I could take a winter like that. :D

    Welcome Larry

I was in Daytona back in February of 1970. It was 33° and raining. I thought it was going to snow.

    Hey guys,

I attended the Naval Aviation Electrician's Mate school in Jacksonville during the first few months of 1970. Made weekend trips to Daytona Beach and Fort Lauderdale (SP?). Lovely places. It rained EVERY morning in Jacksonville while we stood out there in formation ready to march to the mess hall.

I'm beginning to wonder if I've run into any of you in the past !!!

    Tex

Hi Tex, I was down in NAS JAX for Aviation Ordinance "A" school in 1967/68. We never had to march to class in the morning. Went to Daytona Beach a couple of times and got my ass burnt to a crisp when I fell asleep on the beach with no sun screen on. Could hardly move for a couple of days and I thought for sure it was Capt's mast for me [IMG]. Also took a trip to St. Augustine. Old section of the city was good sight seeing.
Was glad to get back North after 4 months in JAX.

    Afternoon all:
 Enjoying the chit chat about what's considered cold in different areas of the country.
I posted this before, but here's for the recent porch members.
While I was in Scotland they had a heat wave. It hit 86 deg. and people were passing out on the streets of Glasgow. That was a 10 yr. high!
During the 2 yrs. I spent over there, we never wore our whites; blues only.
It seemed like there was about a month of spring, a month of summer, a month of fall, and 9 month of winter. It never got brutally cold, but it was cold.
After being outside in that type of weather for 2yrs. I would really start to sweat when the temps. got into the 80's after returning to the states.

Just thought about something Mike posted.
When we would go over to the British sub base, the Brits. had a Wren that they nicknamed "train wreck"!

Until I was 18, I lived about 150 miles south of where I have live now. Summers in southern Pennsylvania at the foot of the Allegheny Mountains were hot and humid. Winters got cold and we had snow, but not like we do along the south shore of Lake Erie. The wind up here is the killer. Today it is 5 degrees and dropping, 20-25 MPH winds. Expect to be minus "something". Not a lot of snow however. That being said, the South Shore of Lake Erie is great in the summer. Highs usually in the 80s, lots to do and see. Stay warm everybody

Pretty cold here as well. Was not able to winterize the water feature last month due to knee. Will pay for that later on in the spring. [IMG]
