I would add the rear leaf. Your truck is an 05 and chances are the rear has sagged. If you just lift the front the rear will likely end up looking dumpy. That said, you could always put in the shocks alone with a .85 or 1.75 lift in the front and see how it looks before lifting the rear.

I like this idea "If I were you I'd put 265/75/16 tires on factory offroad alloys (or aftermarket if you want to spend a bit more) and Bilstein 5100 shocks on all four corners with the fronts set at 1.5"."
Also a hot chick will help in the pictures.

New wheels is obviously the right choice. But if you are looking for a much cheaper option for the mean time, Plasti dip them. Ride with that until you can get your paws on some new wheels.

If you're on a budget and have time to tinker you could always start with plasti dip and then replace them after if you don't like it. If you have a bit more money but like the more basic wheel (less shiny bits) check out these brands. They each make wheels that work well with Tacomas. A popular offset with an 8" wide wheel is 0mm to get the tires approximately flush with the outside edge of the fender. If you like the look having the tires sticking out past the outside edge of the fender then you can go more negative offset like the -10mm from Level 8 or the -25mm from SCS but keep in mind that you increase the odds of having your tires rub the further you move them from the middle of the wheel well.

I Plasti-Dipped mine. Plasti-Dipping all 4 wheels costs less than $30, while buying new wheels can cost over $500.

Front lift with Bilstein 5100s, tint the windows and plastidip the wheels to get started cheap. But if you want to get more "angry" then:

I've got an 06 black access cab. first thing i did was black head light mod and plasti dipped the grill and front emblem. the black plasti dip looks close enough to the body paint imo. those alone make a hell of a difference. the only picture i have of the front is this awful cell phone pic.

when I had my 2006 taco I just sprayed the chrome with black spray paint but I only had the 06 for about a year before I got the 12 but it held up for me.. bhlm isn't too hard there is threads on here that walk you through it.

edit: with you getting snow and we hardly ever do in sc it would be hard for me to tell you how it will hold up?
