Deer hunting BS thread

Managed to get this little 8 pt this year. Can't wait for next season!

 

Guy was hurtin for cash. Offered it to me, I accepted. Lol.

 

At that price I'd have broken my hand getting my wallet out

 

If you are into the primitive thing, why not get a flintlock? In Pa we have a rifle season, which you can use a rifle (non semi), inline muzzleloader, flintlock or bow. A muzzle loader season, inlines apply. A traditional flintlock season. And bow season. I honestly don't see how a single shot rifle is considered primitive, especially when chambered for a modern centerfire cartridge. Your 35 Whelen will easily take ANY game in North America. As far as falling block style in a 35 Whelen, good luck. That's a fairly high pressure cartridge. I would LOVE a 45/70 in a Ruger #1.

 

I want a centerfire rifle that I can hunt with for 2 more weeks of the season, I'm not really a fan of muzzle loaders thought if I did go that route I'd get a .45 caliber flintlock, most likely a Kentucky long rifle. Right now in seriously debating having a 30-06 high wall rebored to .35 whelen. Would have to find the high wall first though

Busy year this year?

 

Yea, there wasn't any food, and the rut didn't really start until mid-late December. It was a weird season.

 

Deer season starts Friday here. Good thing is with my new job I get off in time everyday to hunt. Bad news is I lost 1100 acres of land to hunt. I've still got 210 acres that my grandparents have, but other than that I'll be hunting WMA's. I hunted a few places by boat last year that had a lot deer

 

Friday?! Good Lord. Bow doesn't start til September here. Muzzleloader is like the 2nd week in Oct.

 

I've gotten a few tags already. I have two WY antelope tags, a WY cow elk tag and two SD deer tags. Going to be a busy fall. My elk tag runs from October 15th to January 31st! There should be some left over deer tags for SD available soon.

Everything is still in velvet down here. Bow season doesn't open for over a month still

 

We don't get to start hunting until October 4th here. Which reminds me I need to get my treestand in and food plot planted and trail camera moved. lol

 

I need to get eating some '13 venison. Prolly have 40 lbs left, waiting to go into chili, jerky and venison bacon burgers.

 

Haha yep. August 15th through January 1st for Rifle, archery, or muzzle loader

 

Still got velvet here too. I just wish I had a bow
