09 Tacoma - 2.7L Oil Filter Part #

I've tried searching the web and various forums but I'm still confused on the correct part number for the oil filter for the '09 2.7L Tacoma engine.

An online parts retailer suggests

$58 90915-YZZD1 Oil Filter 1 Case (QTY 10)

90915-YZZD1 but other sources specify 90915-YZZG1. Which one is correct? Thanks!

 

I don't have the answer, but it should be the same as a 2008, no change on the taco mechanically from what i hear.

 

When I went to the dealer to get my first filter they gave me the V6 filter (

90915-YZZD3) instead of the I4 filter. Well it fits and I think it is a better choice since it is bigger. There is also some confusion on how much oil the I4 requires for an oil change. 6.1 quarts will show a big overfill on the stick. So I use 5.75 quarts with the V6 filter which will still show an overfill on the stick but nothing ridiculous.

 

The OEM dipstick is so bad , I can't even tell where my oil level is. Maybe as the oil gets dirtier it will be better.

 

Fram PH 3614 for the I4 engine

 

I put 6qt in not the 6.1qt, same cant read a vague toyota dipstick thing.I'm sweating that 1.6 ounces...not really

 

If you scuff up the stick you can get one good reading after the truck has been sitting overnight

I have attempted to explain this issue to more service managers, including the dealership's...they nod their heads and set the autofill at 6.1, and my dipstick reads 1/2 inch too high, just like I told them it would when I arrived. I have never been able to resolve whether the problem is with the specifications or the dipstick. Should I try calling the manufacturer?

Since going to the dealer for my last oil change didn't help, my husband has finally agreed to do it himself. He's a carpenter and doesn't like mechanic work, but HE's the one who blows a gasket if they don't do it right. I am now about to go to purchase all the supplies, and that is why I find myself researching all day on sites like this one. Socket wrench, torque wrench, filter wrench, 5W20, crush washer, ...

90915-yzzd3 is what I use and 5.5 quarts.hasnt failed me in 137,000 miles.

 

I noticed that on my Scion and my Tacoma, the factory oil filter that I removed didn't have the same part number as the whole case of filters that I bought from the dealer. The factory filters are Japanese while the dealer has ones made in Taiwan. My truck takes exactly six quarts. Right to the top of the full line. It sucks because I can always find a deal on a five quart jug...Then have to spend a ton on one extra bottle. I use a 14mm box end wrench to remove and install the drain bolt. Trust me when I say that the monkeys changing oil at the dealer aren't torqueing anything.

 

They are both correct. I think that the only difference is the country of manufacture. I wouldn't use the V-6 filter because of different spring rates in the bypass valve. It may be O.K. I'm just not sure. Also, at 21,000 miles, I use synthetic 5w-30 here in Florida.
