Do you verify your mpg by calculating your tanks?

Seems quite a few ultragauge owners don't know how to calibrate?

Maybe someone can help me out here since I'm at my wit's end. Even the local Toyota dealer service department didn't know what to say.

I've noticed that my gas mileage is dropping with each tank over the past few month. Currently, I don't have a Scangauge to accurately measure but this is what I've got...

Today, at 3/4 tank, I noticed that I'd clocked 32 miles on my trip odometer which was reset when I filled up the tank. (This is all granny-style city driving.) With a 20 gallon tank divided into 4 quarters (that's 5 gallons per quarter-tank), that means I'm getting 6-7 miles per gallon?!?!

The mods that I've done to the truck (2010 4x4 Access Cab V6):

    ~285/85/16 tires w/ 3" Icon Stage 2 lift kit
~armor: ARB front bumper, AllPro rear bumper, Demello sliders, BudBuilt skid plates
~AFE air intake w/ Magnaflow catback exhaust
    ~Optima dual-battery setup

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on? Any ideas of what might be causing my mileage issues? Any suggestions?

Nothing much. I haven't been bitten by the mod bug. A little plasti dip. And a set of Wet Okole seat covers with gun pouch.
    I run straight 89 gas. No ethanol. I have about 6000 miles on my truck. She's a 2013 4.0 4x4.
If I gas her up she'll get about 320 miles to the tank. This is just about all city driving.

    Ignore the gauge.
    That hurts.

    My 2.7 averages 24-25. I get 22 doing 80mph.
I get as low as 16 if I never get up to 45mph.
That all hurts. WAY tall tires, heavy bumper...
That doesn't help... power or economy.

Drive until the low fuel light is on and fill the tank.
Divide your miles into gallons and you have MPG.

BTW: Your 285/85-16 tire are throwing your odometer off by about 15%.
When your speedometer says 65, you're actually doing 75.
Likewise, when your odometer says 195 miles, you actually went 225.

That will throw your calculation off.

Actually yes. I calculate every tank. I've been as low as 16.5mpg and as high as 24mpg depending on variables. Most tanks seem to be between 18 and 21. It definitely helps that I live at high altitude (8650 feet) and in a small town (no traffic) and most of my driving is in the 35-65mph sweet spot. So that my UG is giving me 20mpg overall isn't out of the question at all. Plus I really have used my UG to help me learn better throttle control. I sat at 19.9mpg for a looooong time! When I finally hit 20 it was cool.

    CITY ONLY: 14-15 mpg
    HWY. ONLY: 17-19 mpg
Costco Premium or regular doesn't change numbers... Shell or Chevron Premium on the Hwy. does add 1-2 mpg. City driving: little or no change between good gas and cheap gas.

Best tank was in Baja using Pemex regular (Magna) 87 octane, and fully loaded... got 19.3 mpg. If I was empty, then over 20 no doubt. Pemex has NO ETHANOL added!

Thanks! I'll have to give your suggestions a try. Looks like the Scangauge is going to be at the top of the list of future mods for the truck, especially since the odometer is off by more than 10% now.

Cool, I wasn't doubting that even 24mpg was possible, just saw a few recent complaints from people saying their ultragauge was reporting 2 mpg too high, which can only mean the ultragauge is calibrated correctly.

I find that the high altitude can give significantly better mpg. Less wind resistance, and less power, which means less gas.

How about the jackass that doesn't take the time to spend a little time scanning the forum to see that there are already several dozen threads with the words "What's your MPG" in the title.

ALL of the information is already here.

Now chill out a little and get to know some of the people on this forum before you jump to calling them jackasses.

With " up to 10% ethanol" I get 16.5 MPG with 100% gas I literally get 18.5. I have test this several times over many different driving conditions.

After only 5 tanks so far I'm getting about 19 mpg... Most of my miles have been Hwy so far though... about 70/30. I have put it in 4wd a few times with the snow and going snowboarding... I hope I get some better mpgs when the engine breaks in more.

I'm averaging around 18.5 MPG with 265/75/16 Duratracs. I've had them on since May. Was getting closer to 20 MPG when it was a stock ride.

Hopefully when Obama is gone we can all get 2-6 mpg increase with gas without ethanol. Maybe we can even get lightbulbs back
