Glad you made it over here finally! My build here will be of much more help to you than my build anywhere else.

What a coincidence! I had no clue you had brinners old truck, I was there for the IFS removal party and "inherited" the entire IFS assembly off the truck.

I know understand why you are redoing the previous SAS. Trust me Josh, you wont be disappointed! Got started on the brackets the other night as well :spy:

Pics soon! If time permits, you should throw up a build thread here in the SAS section, and show where you are starting from and document your progress.

SAS, with tons, 3linked front and rear…I stopped saving receipts for my sanity
thanks for the welcome. I do however lurk here quite frequently much like I do at RST. and you are right this truck has been a colossal battle. ALL OF IT. Of course if you really wanted to go full circle with this truck you are more than welcome to come down and help when I actually pull the trigger on the redo. My wife has already said she would pump all the volunteers full of Lexington BBQ and beer ;) I have most of the parts at this point for the front any ways. I will look in to putting up a build on here. Honestly though I am waiting till I make it at least half way descent. Most guys refer to their rig as a pile…mine really is a pile

Well the -13° temps are supposed to break by the weekend so I may get more time to spend in the garage.

In the meantime...I had gone on two runs now since the SAS, and the front diff cover is taking a beating. Looks like shit when scratched to hell and rusty, so trying to address this.

Trying to help it slide a little easier on the rocks

I am going to do something a little different on top of the cover where the ram connection to the tie-rod rubs the cover at times...stay tuned :D

Wifey's gonna be pissed when she can't find the cutting board

you think the 4 bolts will hold up? both the heads themselves, and then resisting shearing off?

Howdy neighbor. My family has a place on high rock, close to Lexington. Curious to see what you're working on and what you do with it.

Yep we went out and bought a new one to cut up last night :D

They are 1/4-28 Alloy Flat head Hex socket cap screws so they should hold up just fine. Also the head are countersunk and recessed 1/8" below the surface so they shouldn't get touched until it wears down quite a bit. Stronger than Grade 8 so I hope they don't shear off. :D

Actually both. A UHMW cuttingboard :p You can tell by the feel of the material, but usually going by the price you can tell what you're getting. The $2 cutting boards will be just plastic most of the time. The $10 are usually UHMW.

    Thanks!

    Top of diff cover done.

Cut out 3/8" plate and recess a piece of 1/8" making sure it clears the ring gear still.

In order to maximize my uptravel, the ram connection at the tie-rod is layed over toward the diff. Sometimes when I bump a rock etc with the tie-rod it rotates and scratches/gouges my diff cover.

This should eliminate that and help it slide like butta

Besides I had the cover off and wanted to customize it a tad before putting it back on so now its ready to go. Shot it in primer last night.

this is in an effort to keep the steer ram paralelle to the tie rod, instead of rotating the clamp upward?

Yep. Works best when parrallel, and wanted to keep everything low and tight to maximize uptravel. Worked fine as it was, but I want my stuff to keep looking Purdy this time.
