Help everyone. My low fuel light is no longer coming on. I have checked the bulb and it is fine, the gauge reads fine but the light will not come on. Anyone else had this problem?

Have you run out of gas? If not, what measures have to taken to confirm it's not functioning properly?

My low fuel light doesnt come on until the gauge is entirely at E and according to my scangauge, has roughly 1.5 gal in the tank. You've got to empty it pretty damn good for it to come on!

I believe the sending unit has the guage switch (potentiometer) and a separate switch for the low fuel light. Perhaps one half of the sender failed while the other is still working? You can check it but to do that you need to pull the sender from the tank.

I have run the truck very low on fuel, it used to come on as soon as the needle was fully on the E and that left approx. 3 gallons in the tank. Now I have run it to about 1.5 gallons left in the tank (long story of no gas stations in sight) and the light did not come on. Its not important enough for me to pull the sending unit from the tank to test it though.

Same here. Ran it down past E and the light came on yesterday. Filled it up and it took 16.3 gallons.

Some do and some don't. It has to do with the trim level. I believe if you have a tachometer, you have the light, otherwise you don't.

Per the 1996 FSM (my truck is a 96), the option for a low fuel light is only available with the tachometer combination meter. The non-tach gauges (mine) don't even have the light.

The bulb is a good place to start. The troubleshooting steps are: 1) bulb, 2) wiring, 3) fuel sender.

mine doesn't work but my fuel gauge does. i guess SR5 trims have the low fuel light with the tach.

i found out b/c i was gonna go as far as i could until the light came on. sadly the light never did come on and i ran out

Mine didn't come on. Just got the truck so I don't know if this is normal for it.

It's hard to tell from your pic but is the fuel pump symbol screen printed on or is it a red/orange plastic film that could be illuminated?

It's an orange film that will glow bright like the check engine light when it comes on. My old truck had this same setup so I'm familiar with what it should look like, it just didn't light up.

For those that do have a working low fuel gauge, does it light up when you turn the ignition to on? I've never noticed mine so I was wondering if this should happen.

No it will not. Only when the fuel level gets low enough.

Well....I have a different kinda of problem (little weird!).
My low fuel light comes on when the guage needle is halfway between the half tank mark and the next mark next to the E.
Does anyone have this problem? what might be the reason for this.
    Thanks
