Do you mind if I ask what dealer you went to and how you felt about the deal? I'm in your neck of the woods so to speak. :)

i think it was a screw up. the finance guy even asked me how i got such a low price and if i knew someone.

here's what i think happened. i was in the day before looking and negotiating on a Tundra. They discounted the tundra $5,465 ($5,500 less the closing fees $289).

called back the next day for a quote on a taco ($30,900 OTD) via e-mail.

when we sat down to negotiate he had printed the same sheet for the tundra with the same numbers and he only changed the MSRP for the Taco leaving the Tundra's $5,500 discount.

the next best quote was $3,600 more...

I have a question for you guys.

I am about to place an "order", the dealers say they have to ask Toyota if they can get what I want. If they don't get one they will have to trade another dealer for what I want.

So they want a $500 deposit. Did you guys sign papers with a negotiated price BEFORE you gave them your credit card number? And can you get the deposit back?

Dealing with Toyota really sucks. I was told if I order one it would take 120 days. BS!

    Thanks!

yes i had to put a $500 deposit since they had to order/find my truck with the specs i wanted. However, i left the dealership with the spec sheet of the tacoma i wanted with the negotiated price/payment in hand before they got my cc. Only took my dealership 3 days to find mine. The 120 days is BS unless you are looking for an offroad package with the Limited trim or some other weird ass configuration that Toyota has to custom build.

I put a $100 deposit in my order. Dealer was unable to find a DCSB with the SR package anywhere in New England. I didn't have a negotiated price when I ordered because they was unsure if Toyota would even accept the order for a SR in this region my order and deposit was contingent in my acceptance of the price once the order was accepted by Toyota. Ordered end of November expected delivery is week of January 20th. Less then 60 days

    Things I need to tow.
First, you will ALWAYS get a better deal on a model that the dealer has in stock rather than having to order or trade for one. Therefore, I recommend anyone looking for a Tacoma go to Toyota's web site and use the "Search Inventory" link under "Shopping Tools". This allows you to search their inventory by zip code to see if there are any equipped the way you want near where you are. You can filter down pretty far, even by options and color. The tool will return a list of vehicles, but won't tell you what dealers they are at. Spend some time getting comfortable with it and you'll be surprised what you can find.

If you don't find any listed that match your needs, start over with a zip code for another city a bit further away (or larger) and see if any turn up. Broaden your search until you've checked an area as far as you're willing to travel to get the model you want.

If you find any listed in your search, check the dealers listed in the pull-down as being in your area, but don't choose to contact any as you don't know if they have the truck you're looking at. Once you have the dealers in the area you searched, it's a simple matter to go to each dealer's specific website and check they're specific inventory to see if they have the truck. Once you find it, contact that dealer directly.

Do your own legwork and take the dealer out of the locating equation. If your search doesn't return any trucks matching your needs, you dealer won't be able to source it any easier and you won't get any breaks ordering one that takes months to build. In my case, I checked the Inventory site for months and located one I was really interested in. I found the dealer where it was located and watched it for weeks to make sure it was still there. Once it had been there three months, I contacted the dealer and made my deal. I then bought a one-way plane ticket to that city and drove it home. Of course this doesn't work on hot-selling models and very few Tacomas sit on the lots that long. But mine was an expensive model in one of the less popular colors and I got what I feel was a great deal.

I wrote to Toyota and asked how the allocation worked and was told that the dealers ask for generally what they feel they can sell in their area and those are the types of vehicles they're sent. They're a bit more arrogant with the Tacomas as they sell fairly quickly regardless of model. Good luck.

I'm in the market for a 2014 Tacoma in Tennessee. I'm about 99% certain that it will be a Tacoma and not a 4runner (my old vehicle). Working with two dealers trying to find me a 6 Speed and it's not looking to good. :(

    MSRP: $32,750
    PAID: $31,000 + tax, title & registration

I probably could have gotten lower, but I asked for them to come down to $31,000 and they said okay in about three minutes. I had to special order to get the color I wanted (Silver Sky Metallic) without an offroad or sport package. ($500 deposit after we negotiated price.) It took a month to come in. All in all, I feel like I got a square deal.

But I got this! My first car dealership sale and first truck order and feel good about the deal. I placed my order at the end of Oct and picked up the truck 2 week of Dec.

2014 DCSB Spruce Mica TRD Sport
    MSRP was $33,500
    Paid $32,000
Saw it still all wrapped up and took delivery with 12miles on it.

First post here! Since I didn't foresee myself holding on to this vehicle for more than 3 years, I didn't go 4x4 (which is painful coming from a 2007 FJ that I took off road every weekend :( ). However, I'm hooked and if I end up moving to the mountains after graduating in 2016 I'll definitely be trading up to a 4x4 Taco.

Anyway, got my first Tacoma on 12/30/2013. 2014 DCSB 4.0 V6 PreRunner in Super White with SR5, tow package, TSS package, Entune plus, 10 year bumper to bumper (in case it gets handed down to my little brothers) and oil changes (which my dealership will do every 1,000 miles if I really wanted it done that often). Dropped a $29k bill on the table, grabbed the keys and walked out the door.

Curious to see others with the TSS package. I have yet to see another out on the road. It seems to be mostly cosmetic with a few performance modifications including nicer shocks and oil & tranny coolers. The coolers are part of the tow package but they actually had them on all TSS models at the dealership regardless of tow-readiness.

I ordered a 6 speed Tacoma with TRD offroad package, 4x4, DCSB, entune audio plus, tint, and all weather floor mats for $33,100 otd. I ordered it in mid November but it hasn't came in yet. Somebody posted here on tw about how Toyota wasn't building 6 speeds last month, although my dealer didn't mention that, has anyone received their 6 speed order recently?

Ok good that's what I wanted to hear. Who lets you know when it's built, Toyota or your dealer?
