the old defective ballast is the SS.

the new "corrected" ballast is the DSP.

So what are they gonna do now for you? are they sending the same ones again? if both ballast fail each time! that's not what i call a low failure rate...

Funny you say failure rate a guy I talk to had bad ballasts and was told he was only 2 out of 1700 that have failed. Apparently something is up

Well the cold excuse no longer applies. I'd actually like to see a few examples of people who's brand new revised ballasts have worked perfectly. Cause from what I've seen so far on this site, those percentage numbers seem to be backwards.

Oh I agree with you. Some things gotta get figured out, everyone (whose having issues) can agree that having ballasts miss fire or even don't fire gets aggravating and should be having any misfires in the first place.

Alright, i gave them a call today to ask what are my options because i can't wait t'ill the 15th + another week shipping to get them here. And i was told that they have the D2S ballast in stock, it's the AMP that they are waiting for.

I hope they won't do like yours Tacodane…i'll keep updates if they like the canadian winter :)

    Here's my story

Kit came with 2 SS ballasts.
Driver side would misfire 90% of the time
Passenger would misfire 5% of the time
Every now and then both would misfire at the same time, but only happened a few times.

    Got my new DSP ballasts.
Driver side has not misfired a SINGLE time
Passenger side fired the bulb ONCE and died completely.

They are sending me one more DSP ballast because I am currently using a DSP on the driver and an SS on the passenger (which occasionally 5% of the time does not fire)

Driver side one is going strong though! Hasn't misfired once so there is light at the end of the tunnel. And it started the other night when it was about -20 to -30 with windchill

Yaa. I'm going to change my ground points this weekend see if that'll help. Learned a few things about electrical systems for the aircrafts I work on

What is the difference between the two?

To my knowledge the Dsp are for D2s bulbs and the Amp are the regular connectors for most other bulbs…is there any internal differences? I might be wrong as i am not a expert on the subject.

I have no idea. If these DSPs keep messing up some things is going to happen

The DSP ballast is improved. I think it fires with more power and starts much better in cold weather. Which is what most of the issues with the SS ballasts were

Windchill doesnt affect the temp of your ballast when you're starting a car (or the engine or any other component). The ballast is at ambient temperature, it cannot get colder than the temperature of the air.

Windchill IS a factor when there is a different in temperature between the ambient and something else, such as a human body at 98 degrees or a running engine that's warmed up. There has to be a thermal difference for the wind to cool it more quickly. It does affect the speed at which the parts will warm up, but only because as they warm there is a thermal difference between the part and the ambient temperature.

So when you wake up in the morning and it's 10 degrees with a 40mph wind (not uncommon in Wyo where I live), your truck is 10 degrees, not -30.
