Tacoma Fuel Economy

I usually don't worry about my fuel economy on my Tacoma. Since I lifted it, and put larger tires, etc,... I knew that I would not get the best. I simply fuel up when I need to, which is usually at half a tank if I am local, or 1/4 tank when I am traveling.

I was curious, so I decided on my most recent trip from home to Montgomery, then Birmingham, then Tuscaloosa, and back home, to test my fuel economy. As the truck sits now, I am on factory gears, and running 33 inch tires. (32.8 to be exact) I filled up in Selma, then drove. Topped off the tank again shortly before I arrived home. I cam out with a calculated 17.8 MPG. Not bad really, considering.

 

using GPS eco software is showing AVG of 19.42......
Ill be watching it closer from now on just for shiz and grins.

This was including driving to fresno and dealing with some long grades, high wind and lots of passing.

If driven at exactly 88mph, he can go back in time to last Friday...... So every Monday morning he does this and comes back last Friday just after his shift.

So, the question is......
Does he actually do this every Monday, or did he only do it 1 Monday since that Monday never changes to the next Monday due to traveling backwards? So that "every" monday is only "that" Monday.

I dunno, triangles, aliens, Bigfoot, and the 10' booger flicker in the horse trough kinda shit.

Let's move onto the next dilemma..... How does he post things during the week?

I'd say he would shave to do it every Monday because he's going back to Friday and starting the weekend over. If he didn't do this every Monday he would eventually play out the week like it never happened.

This would be an awesome plan except he'd get caught doing the same thing every weekend. Say he had a family reunion that weekend? I would probably wait till the following weekend to go back...

 

Calculated today, (1st gen v6). 14.47mpg city with about an hour or so of highway mixed in

I would like to know how 455 people got over 20 MPG ?????

 

perhaps happened a few times then use that as their mpg.

I have kept records of every gas fill up since the day I got my truck (dcsb 4wd automatic), and I have over 20mpg 5 times in 4 years, The highest is 23mpg. My average is 18.42. I'm happy if I get over 18 when I fill up.

The poll should have qualified further for cab type, 4wd or 2wd, and manual or automatic, and stock unmodified engine and no parts removed to reduce the weight of the truck for the poll results to be more useful/objective.

All in-town, and to some extent, "driving like grandpa" will result in poor mileage.
My Ultragauge is reading 15mpg after a day of shopping with the wife.
It reads 26 when I arrive at work after cruising in at 65 for 45 miles.

Texas highway at 80mph, I'm down to 22.

That's the 2.7, but the 4.0 will follow the same trends.

 

2009 2.7l 4cyl manual Access cab with an ARE shell. I routinely get 25mpg on the highway between Austin and Waco (90 miles) if I'm very careful. Typical around-the-city is 20 or so. Lifetime tracking (and I've tracked every gallon) is pushing 22mpg according to Fuelly, GasCubby, and my ScanGauge (redundancy is good, redundancy is good).

I'd love to have the power and tow capacity of the 6 cylinder. I'd also love a pony. I couldn't afford to feed either one.

 

it is not the distance or the speed that determines the mpg, but rather, the number of stop and go. distance matters, but only if you are not in stop and go traffic. You can get high mpg running at 35mph or 65mph as long as there is no stop and go. You can get incremental improvement if you plan your route where you can go longer distance with fewer stops vs shorter distance with a lot of left and right turns and stopping.

I recently drove 380 miles non stop from bay area to Anaheim for 6 hours, going at steady 75mph on I-5 for most of the trip. That's 22.3mpg, with a bit of downtown Los Angeles stop and go traffic. I think that is the highest I ever got on my truck, stock 4x4 trd OR dcsb.

 

There are ways to achieve very good mileage in urban driving, but it is difficult without a manual trans.
