Recently I made a trip out west and had to drive in 4HI pretty often. The roads would be icy, snowy the majority of time. Then I would hit a stretch for maybe a mile where they be clear. Knowing that Toyota says do not drive it in 4HI on dry pavement, it just seemed a little crazy to keep switching it. I never went over 55 in 4HI and the roads were pretty straight for the most part. What do you guys do in these conditions?

If it was straight, I wouldn't worry about it. Lots of curves, I'd switch it back into 2H. If it was binding up, you'd feel it. That's why they put that in the owner's manual.

The only time I ever experience binding was turning into a driveway or a parking lot situation. Just regular driving down a road should be fine and the only trouble I'd see is if your turnin fairly sharp off of the main road.

Agree, pretty straight and I wouldn't worry about it. I have only felt binding when I was at a stop and turning onto another road. I use 4HI all the time on straight dry roads just to use it and keep it lubed. Try for about 4-5 miles a month on straight roads at a mininum just to keep it working right.

Keep it straight, leave it in 4H.

Those conditions drive me crazy too
