Hello people, i got this question, when i bought my taco, the sales person told me she didnt recommended using bull bars because it could interfere with the sensors that opens the airbags, what do you think, could this be true?? anyone had any experience with this??

    Thanks, Eduardo.

most accidents are at low impact!!!!! meaning a low impact crash will still throw an airbag!! and it is very expensive to replace... your insurance will report the wreck to carfax and it will be on there forever air bags deployed!!! v.s a 300 to 500 dollar bull bar!!! the bull bar saved my ass!!!

Are you reffering to a Westin Type Bull bar (like on my truck) or a bumper like ARB?

The sales person didn´t mention any particular type of bullbar but all bull bars, maybe bull bars that cover most of the front could cause that airbags dont deploy correctly

The air bags sensors are small, yellow boxes mounted to your frame. They are independant and uneffected by the install of an aftermarket bumper as long as that bumper is certified for use on the vehicle that you are installing it on and is air bag compatible. Look under the hood for a yellow wiring bundle on the fenders, follow it forward and you will see the air bag sensors. This is also a good time to mention that you need to be careful when working around that yellow wire bundle, no cutting or soldering or anything else that might interrupt the integrity of the wiring should be done. That bundle is in the way for those of us who mount compressors on the fender and you must work delicately around it to prevent the air bags from being deployed -watrd

^Well that qualifies as the dumbest thing I've seen in the last week, and I just flew in after 5 days in NJ so that's saying a lot.

Airbags are deployed with acceleration/deceleration sensors. If the cars slows too fast (like 40-0 in 4 feet, significant g forces) they trigger the bags. After market bumpers and bull bars shouldn't affect the airbag sensors one bit!

where are the airbag sensors on our trucks? in my beamer they were mounted at the wheel well so the front end had to get pretty damn crumpled before they deployed. No fender bender deploys with the beamer

I believe they have always functioned using deceleration vs. impact. It's better because it might be possible to hit something which doesn't affect the front end but which might lead to sudden vehicle deceleration. For example, a concrete block high enough to catch the vehicle's axle. It might leave the bumper untouched but could still lead to a sudden violent deceleration. Plus, it would suck if some jerk could walk up to your vehicle and hit it with a sledge hammer in the right spot, deploying your airbag.

There's a lot of information and history on this Wiki page.

Don' t know if that is true, but sure as hell is funny! I dont think the airbag would deploy with a purse hit, imagine if you are trying to park in battery, and you accidentally hit the car behind you?

I put a police package with push bars bolted to the frame, that have been used this winter, on mine and disabled the air bags. I also installed a 4 pt. harness and wear a vest.
My Taco and I am not going to be the hurting ones.
