I was driving home just a short while ago and the speed limit is 80 (just a reference for how hard it hit) a rock flew up and put a nice 8-12 spider crack in my windshield. Its starts in the black strip at the bottom and extends up.

Any one know a rough estimate of a windshield or where to go in central Texas? I'm not looking to file a claim. Either replace or possibly fix but not sure about fixing due to where the crack started.

Does your insurance cover it? Had it happen to me a month ago had it replaced the next day I know every state is different but here in SC there is no deductible on windshield damage.

Its subject to my deductible so it would be $500 and I know I can get a windshield for less than 500.

Lots of local glass shops should be able to hook you up. Many will come to you and might do it at your work or school parking lot.

I go through windshields pretty often and I normally only pay around $150+/- and don't use comprehensive.

Wow, was that for OEM or Aftermarket? I've heard/read not good things about Safelite...thought they only used the cheaper quality aftermarket w/s.

I'm in CenTX too and need a new windshield. Who did you end up going with and were you happy? I was thinking of using SOCO or Armadillo just based on yelp reviews.

I had to replace the one in my audi and was quoted 450 and just let if go cause the crack wasn't distracting. after a year the quote was 150 and I replaced it. Cracked a week later because the cause was my under car transmission mount and brace that made the windshield flex different and crack. I just live with it now. I know that here in kansas there is no rule enforced about a cracked screens though... don't know about texas.

You might want to double check with your insurance. Most that I am aware of waiver the deductible for a safety issue such as a cracked windshield.

Since this has been revived, I'll throw in my 2 cents. Go through windshield repairs and windshield replacements quite a bit up here. For me it's always been covered under the Comprehensive portion of my insurance. I set my comprehensive deductible at $100 for that reason. New windshield costs me $100. Chip repairs are free with most insurance companies these days to my knowledge.
My collision deductible I set at $1000 because that's how much I'm willing to come out of pocket before making the insurance claim.

That's what I've figured out works for me. FWIW

Mine has been cracked on the passenger side for over a year. Doesn't bother me.

I just did the same thing. I accidentally let the Wiper arm come down on my window with no blade on it... Spiderweb the entire windshield in 30 miles and 2 days.

Called my insureance said 500$ deductible. They told me to Call SafeLite and Tell them My Insurance referred me to them. I got the insurance Rate. 260$ normal from Safelite and 177$ @ insruance rate.

Ha, that's the exact same thing I did, except my crack only developed on the passenger side. I've been driving it, but figured it wouldn't pass inspection...time to replace anyway.

$50 deductible with State Farm administered by Lynxx. Non at-fault so no premium surcharge.

I know this topic has been covered before, but I wondered if the OP had a local installer recommendation.

Depending on your insurance you might have a different deductible that you can use once a year for windshields. And it is less than your normal deductible.

350-400. My insurance is the same. 500 deduct so no need to file a claim.
Mine only covers if it is vandalized, then it is free.

Aftermarket. But, I go through some windshields (4 replaced in two years on different vehicles) and they are always $150+/-. Local shop here in Mississippi.
