Is this a good deal on a 2003 Tacoma?

    Hey guys,

New member here, but long time toyota owner. Had a 96 4x4 3.4 Tacoma for 4 years. Sold it in 2005. I have owned a 4runner and Tundra since.

I'm currently driving a DC 5.7L Tundra with 132k miles. Its paid off, but its just my commuter. I don't use it to tow and don't really need the space because my wife drives a highlander. We have a 1 month old so I do need 4 doors for a car seat. We do fish a little and I need a truck bed every once in a while to haul stuff.

I have been kicking around the idea of selling it and driving a high mileage Tacoma to commute to work in. We could use the extra money to pay off bills and for savings for her next vehicle.

I found a 2003 4 door Tacoma with 186k miles. Has some minor body damage on one side and hail damage on the hood. The engine looks clean and there is no frame rust. Tires were new. It has been owned by one female owner, and I'm not quite sure she kept up with the maintenance. The belts, plugs, spark plug wires, ignition coils were all done at 162k miles it looks like.

She was asking 8500. I offered 6500 and she is currently thinking it over. KBB on my Tundra is about 14k. What do yal think?

    Thanks!

    Luke

Yeah may be true. Sounds like my wife. But I really don't need as much truck as the Tundra . I really just need a beater that runs. I'll let my wife drive the nice vehicle for road trips, dinner, etc. We plan on getting a Sequoia if they ever redesign the interior, which i hope is for 2015.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
You have a beater..the Tundra. 6.5k off the new Sequoia makes better "cents" IMO.

I dunno, makes some sense to me.
Sell the Tundra for $12K, buy the Tacoma for $6500, pocket $5500.
Also save a little (too little) on gas with your Tacoma.

Even if you spend $1500 on the Tacoma you're ahead $4K.

This is what I was thinking. Pay off some of our furniture and credit cards. I think I'm going to hold off on the deal though, drive my tundra a little while longer and then get a lower mileage Tacoma down the road.

That is a Good price without seeing it....1st gens in decent shape are Hard to find & $$$$$$$!!!! besides cosmetics... you may need to get suspension upgrade.. But that is no rush... I found this with 160,000 for 10G, and dang lucky to have her!!! she is clean, some cosmetic, but engine, frame, like new! Look around at the prices of decent 1st Gens..

If you wait to long it will be Gobbled up...

I withdrew my offer but I'm kind of 2nd guessing it. The hood needs to be replaced. What do they run 2-300 painted? Cd player didn't work. I'm not worried about the other body damage. It was on the rear/side and wasn't too bad. I wouldn't have it repaired.

Here is the ad. Notice she had a "typo" in the description of 158k miles. It actually has 186k

I've seen several low mileage 1st gen 4 doors but they are normally 11-14k. Thats pretty much what my 2007 DC Tundra will be worth. I may be able to get 15 for it.

Do any of you keep a rear facing car seat in a 1st gen 4 door?

    Welcome to TW

You might have to put the seat in the middle to make room... I crammed a rear facing seat in the back of an FJ in the middle, so I'm sure a DC 1gen Tacoma could do it.

If you buy this truck and need a factory radio I'd give you mine for free.
Just pay for shipping and it's yours. That'd be like five or ten bucks max I'd guess.

Had to pass on the truck. Really wasn't a great deal for the shape it was in. Thank you very much for the offer.
