    I have the 6spd Manual...

    And I f-Ing love it...:spy:

Not to bring the whole MTvsAT war in here, there's plenty of threads on that already...

But I have the 6spd and have nothing but good things to say about it. I have driven stick my entire life, from a handful of 90's Yota pickups, to a built fox body 5.0 mustang, and full a size Chevy 4x4.

I love the 6spd in my truck. 68k miles and no issues. (Knock on wood)
Again, not trying to bring up a debate in here, just offering an honest opinion on the Tacoma 6spd from someone who actually drives one...

Today at the Redding airport I spotted three silver, 2nd gen, 4x4/prerunner tacos. There is also a lifted black 2nd gen TRD sport across/down the street from me... I have never spoken to the owner.

Anyone know a good tattoo artist that does hands really well? Looking at Nunez up in Richmond since his portfolio has a good amount of hands and this one is going to be focused on them.

To address Ian's and many others' comments. The Automatic is really THAT good. Reliable, doesn't need an enlarged tranny cooler, fuel eco is great (at least +1mpg), and it's everything you'd want in a truck automatic. I mean sure, there'll be some hunting down hill or up hill, but it's really to your style, just use OD off, yanno??

With that said. I drive manual, and I only drive manual. I can see using automatic in 4wd being super useful when going up hill or down hill when you need to brake and gas at the same time. But I mean, I drive through SF in my Scion xB 1.5L 87hp econobox with 5 people in the car manual through Lombard, I'm good, I can handle it and I prefer it this way.

When wheeling, putting your truck into Park you'll be safer and avoid what happened to MJ during the last Slick Rock trip when his E-Brake failed (he's got a 6MT also) when he stopped to get out of his truck w/ the engine running, and his truck went backwards only to be stopped by his door (that door was sooooo wrecked).

With that said and all the caveats, I only drive stick (even in traffic).

I'll only drive auto if I have an injury, which seems like a more important consideration now that I'm in my 30s and I have some joint pain.

Still I love driving manual transmissions. Yes, the clutch is a little sloppy; you lose feel because there's a clutch delay valve, but you grow to live around it. Yes, the clutch throw is like super freaking long, but I deal w/ it. My xB has .9" of travel between engaged and disengaged on the pedal, super short, the Taco is like 5" (#dafuq). The transmission shifts like a truck transmission(well duh), it's not as vague as some cable shifters, but you are moving a huge mass of gears, it's not going to be as easy as an S2000. My big thing though w/ driving stick is downhill, there's nothing better than engine braking cuz it doesn't eat up brakes.

With that said, I'm still super happy with my truck.

If you're truly considering going for a manual transmission, consider a marlin crawler and an FJ cruiser Twin Stick transfer case. This way you can get 2WD Low in addition to 4WDLow, 4High, 2High vs the standard 4Low 4High 2High.

Thanks, putting them on isn't the issue its getting them rebuilt. The shop has them now so I'm just waiting for them to finish. I hope its soon because the shocks I threw on for the meantime are terrible.

Hey anyone know about wood? (Okay maybe that was wrong to ask that way here in a guy forum) But I want to get some Zebrawood to build a self leveling meditation bench. I heard that wood is pretty hard to work with? Am I going to mess up blades? I need a pretty two color hard wood that will not darken with sun and will not succumb to the elements.

I've never worked with Zebrawood but I would assume that you'd be fine with just a normal wood saw blade. You'll probably just want to go slower but not too slow so that you don't stall the saw but you don't burn the wood. You might have to worry about tear-out when planing or joining the wood if you're doing that, but otherwise you should be fine.

Edit: It would tear out because of the wavy grain (just read that on wikipedia)
