Dude that's wheeling 101 never go wheeling with one truck

Let me know next time there is a wheeling meet that is NOT involving pewpwater - I'll try to make it.

 

In an effort to figure out my lousy mpg's, I spent some time on the truck today. Did a full cylinder compression and leakdown test and traced all vacuum hoses and compared to FSM. Results:

The Good:
- Cylinder Compression is all within 5 psi of each other and all cylinders are over 155 psi. I understand this is excellent with 258k on the odometer.
- No leakdown.

The Not So Good:
- Found a few disconnected vacuum hoses. All fixed up now.
- Found the nibs on the EGR vacuum modulator valve were basically epoxy'd on. Gonna have to order a new valve. Not too bad, about $47
- Found the BVSV valve was completely busted. The hose coming from the charcoal canister was going nowhere and the hose that comes from the intake tube was going nowhere. Unfortunately could never see that because this valve is between the firewall and the engine intake manifold.
- Found the coolant temp sensor wire was sheered off at the sensor base. Once again, could never see it due to the location.

Figure the last one is probably the biggest mpg culprit as the engine probably wasn't going into open loop. The only thing that's saying otherwise is that the truck did seem to go into overdrive on the highway.

I guess we will see what happens when the parts come in.

IDK but usually running the heat when the truck is overheating helps to cool the engine because you are releasing the heat rather than holding it in the engine

my buddy rides dirt bikes there. kept trying to get me to get a permit but i doubt i'd go there more than a couple times.

the wild tacomas in their natural habitat are drinking from a watering hole...
