It could be -30 with a good 10mph wind. That'll drop it down to reference temperatures of -50.

And -30 is cold. But not that cold. I've started diesels (Not happy diesels.) In actual -50ºC. No Wind Chill. (Not having a pissing contest, but as I said, adding in windchill really doesn't tell me how actually cold out it was.)

I think without wind chill, it was right around -35 F. Regardless, thats cold in my book. How'd you get a diesel to start when it was that cold??

Block Heater. And cycle the glow plugs many many times.

And yes, -35º is damn cold I won't deny that.

Ya, but 5 minutes of casual driving will warm the engine up more than 10 minutes of sitting at idle.

Chris4x4 and a couple of other members tested it at various temperatures and 5 minutes of driving brought the engine to the same temperature as 20 minutes of idling with ambient temps around 60.
At colder temps, idling took even longer.

The concern is cabin comfort, not so much engine temp in most cases.

Did you ever get into a vehicle when the interior temp is -3*F?

I can guarantee you'll let it sit at idle for 10 minutes and let the interior warm while you rush back into your house. ;)

-25C = -13F. So pretty chilly for sure.

I remember from an old physics class that -40C is interesting when converted to Fahrenheit.

It was -30 deg C (-40 deg C) with the wind chill last weekend, my Taco started right up.
Ironically I had issues starting my new snowmobile!
