    Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up. One of the guys I work with has that Lincoln truck and went through the same thing. I'll do some researching and find out if this V8 has the same issue. I know the plugs on the 5.4L caused some major issues, hopefully they changed the setup on the new engine but it's definitely worth checking.
I did. I went back and forth on deciding if I should hold out and find an Ecoboost but decided against it. Real world MPG's on the 5.0L aren't reported as being too bad, only 1 - 2 MPG off from my Tacoma. I was a little nervous about the Ecoboost as it aged also, there's not a whole lot of long term feedback so I decided to go with the simple N/A engine for the long haul.
Definitely not when I get home, maybe around 30k miles though. If I remember correctly, the plugs were a 2-piece plug and the bottom piece snapped off in the head. The threaded part comes out but the bottom sticks in:

I don't know if you can neversieze that part of the plug though, can you? I'll see if this truck even takes those plugs first, then go from there.

Did a little searching and the 5.0 won't have the same issues as the 5.4 triton. This engine uses traditional plugs :woot:

I can see the 4runner going but the Tundra is here for along time. People love the full size truck and Toyota has alot invested in that thing

They sell a special thread lubricant at most of the parts stores. It's not neverseize, but I can't remember what it's called. Maybe something as easy as Spark Plug Thread Lubricant, haha.
Regardless, it won't impede spark like neverseize can.

    I wonder if it's like a re-branded dielectric grease?

Glad you got the 5.0, my understanding is they get excessive carbon build up and when you go to remove just the threads come out so it isnt an issue that never seize will fix. My buddy has a trick he tries everytime he does a set and it seems to work preety well. That being said he also bought a special tool that allows you to remove the pieces without removing the heads. Takes a huge $$$ job and makes it resonable for the owner

Maybe similar, but I think it's more heat resistant.
    Shrug.

    That's a handy little unit.
I always used to make people with 5.4's drop their truck off in the AM and leave it for the day, so that the engine could cool completely off before the tech tried to pull the plugs. We never had one break, but there was a hell of a pucker factor every time one came in.

That's exactly what happens. The picture I posted shows a bunch of them broken off. The guy I work with actually bought that extraction tool from Ford also but they were so rusted in, he still couldn't budge them. Ended up tearing down the top of the engine with 150k miles. He found some other issues during the tear down also, he would have been better off to just leave it alone.
HA, no way. I'll take it to Framingham Ford, where I bought it or Franklin Ford just because it's closer.

Hopefully, with I won't have to bring it in for warranty work for a long time to come. I'll do my own maintenance, just like with the Tacoma, I'm just hoping for some luck that this truck will be sound and not have issues.

A guy I play soccer with had an older 5.4 and actually traded the truck in just so he wouldn't have to pull the plugs. Truck had just over 100k miles and he had heard about the nightmare stories.

True. Maybe the 4Runner will stick around being one of the last real offroad capable SUVs out there. Some say the small truck market is dying too, but the Tacoma is going strong and dominating in that. Currently the "Big 3" have no offerings there, although soon the Colorado is coming back.

Keep in mind, in the off road segment, the 4Runner has to compete with Jeep and, in a higher price group, the Land Rovers. Right now, I think Toyota has the Highlander to compete with the more family oriented SUV's and cross overs and the 4Runner to compete with the Jeep (now that the FJ is gone). The 4Runner has an advantage also in that it's a bit bigger than other SUV's these days.

I do believe, even if the Colorado comes back, the Tacoma will continue to rule the mid-sized market. If the Colorado comes back and is a decent truck and Ford decides to enter the ring again with a Ranger and the 2.0L ecoboost, then I'd be curious to see what happens but just the Colorado isn't going to knock the Tacoma out of the number 1 spot.
Haven't heard that one before

Well so far it seems that anyone who's dealt with the first gen Colorados will be staying far away from the new ones.

    Sold the bike! Finally!

He had his buddy with him too both Hispanic and 18-ish. I had a few inches on em anyway, but I was kinda uneasy. Sketchy neighborhood and shit. So his buddy is reading my stickers and reads my "criminals prefer unarmed victims" sticker out loud. Looked at him dead in the eye and said "I'm VERY pro-second amendment" with a "I'll blow your brains out look" lol. He backed up a few feet

But then of course I dropped it on the trailer because of a STRONG gust, so I took $100 off. He was cool about it.

I'd guess the 4Runner is more likely to go if anything, only because they do have the Highlander..while the Rav4 is never gonna be a Jeep competitor it's the way a lot of people who want to say they have a SUV go that have no interest in more than a daily driver and want fuel economy.

Just the Colorado coming back won't matter a ton but may chip some sales off the Tacoma. You still have many people who are put off by the bailout that won't buy GM. If Ford brought back the Ranger though it would be interesting.

    THIS!

I would never consider GM as an option because of the bailout. They should have changed business strategies, but instead they just focused on cutting corners and offering a huge lineup. I still see new GM cars I've never heard of! There are like 15 sedans, a bunch of Yaris competitors, and more. Why not offer less but give higher quality instead of spreading their mediocrity thin and having shit to show for it.

That's part of it. The other part is their piss poor customer service..play stupid to avoid honoring your own written warranty and lie to the customer.
