An honorable mention ha my vote would be to put that on the judge. If he wants to say "Photo A is a clear winner for me" then so be it and if he wants to add, "man, photo B really does get honorable mention though" then also so be it. I wouldn't mandate it. Just make it optional. Just like the critique or explanation for why you picked what. Just my 2 mites.

Yea a few judges have said their top picks plus the winner. Up to the judge. There are no rules or guide lines on how you judge or why you picked the winner. And their never will be

Being from California, things I like are cool, not generally warm feeling.

Here's my first entry ever. I have no idea what I'm doing with a camera... at this time I'm just in the point-and-shoot phase. My stepmother gave me her kinda broken camera, which is by far the best camera I've ever owned: Nikon D40x with an AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm lens on it (I have no idea if that's how you present the lens).

I have no idea how to mess with aperture, F-stops, ISOs... BPOs, HMOs, GMOs... in fact I really don't even know what they truly are.

    That said, I present "warmth"

    DSC_0279_zpsc5eeaba8_eab40cd8c44879dddc2248ce9318b5ab4e46012f.jpg

I had to hold the flip up flash down so that it wouldn't go off. I would really like to know how to make the lamp much sharper while still maintaining a glowing effect.

Nice photo. The flash was trying to pop up because you have it set to the green Auto mode on the dual in top. Set it to the circle with a line through it with a lightning arrow thingy in the middle and it will be on auto with no flash.

If you have questions about A, S, and M modes don't hesitate to PM me or someone on here or check out some of the beginner photographer links shared recently. It's really not that hard once you get the hang of it.

Thanks. Yeah after spending time with Monte I want to learn the basics so I can take nice photos. Like I said though, this is by far the nicest camera I've ever owned (even with it not fully functional) so merely just pointing and shooting is taking the nicest photos I've ever taken.

As for the warmth the lamp itself is heated up, hence "warmth," but I feel as though the colors and tone speak to "warmth" as well.

But if I knew what I was doing, I'm sure I could make the photo better represent my vision.

I'm in the same boat you are! Very new to all of this and just bought my first camera. This site ( http://digital-photography-school.com ) seems to really explain things well and makes it easy to comprehend.

This rain and shitty weather plus no free time has made it impossible for me to get out and get some shots :( I might try and submit something tonight if I have time

Not what I originally planned, but I figured I might as well throw it out there haha

The colors the lighting brings out of the wood made me think, "warmth".

My original idea isn't going to work out. Too cold outside. Have to figure out something else.

    Love the wood grain.

I feel as though if the background was something different, say wood flooring or something softer, it would really add to the warmth of your photo.

Thanks! And I agree, I really wish I had a good background, something like what you said. Unfortunately all I have is cheap carpeting and grey walls from my dorm room...

Haha I had so many ideas, but the snow has already melted and my weekend doesn't start until tomorrow so I haven't had much time to mess with taking photos. All excuses though really...
