Currently 3" revtek lift, plan to upgrade.
I have a 2005 4 door tacoma. Why will my truck not shift into 5th gear but in 4th it will rev up to 4000 rpm then stop and shift.

How many miles? Has the transmission fluid been changed?

Any dash lights? Is the truck in "limp" mode?

Yes I have dash lights and 188000 miles. And yes the transmission fluid has been changed.

If the check engine light is on, get the code read.

    Lets go from there.

You can go to autozone, o'riellies and they will read the codes that are stored on your trucks computer. This will give us an idea what may be wrong.

I'm pretty sure your truck is in "limp" mode. The truck does this to protect itself from destroying itself. Basicly it is forcing you to get the truck fixed.

Are the dash lights flashing? I'm betting they are.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Check the wiring connection at the VSS isn't corroded or broken.
