Installed CBI Ditch Light Brackets, Illumination Supply Light pods and 21" Blitzpro Single Row LED bar to replace my leaky cheapo dual row light bar. Old light bar will be taken apart, cleaned, resealed and likely going on my friend's boat.

Got Blowout last night, Left Rear. HUGE hole, center tread. Look what they found in the tire when they replaced it...

Apparently, I ran over a .45ACP 1911 pistol magazine that had at least one round in it. Round went off, blew the mutilated mag into the tire!

I've been a firearms instructor & RSO for decades, and I've NEVER heard of this kind of thing happening.

    Woof!

That is one of the craziest things I have heard of. The .45 round actually went off?

    Yep.

Yes, it did. If you look at the pics, the white powder residue is clearly visible. It wasn't as obvious in the dark, last night, but what floored me was that the WHOLE magazine was IN the tire...

That's kinda what I was thinking, too.

Well, I almost rolled my truck this afternoon. I was coming down a hill, making a gentle right hand turn at approximately 55mph when the back end slid out after hitting a patch of extra slick ice (the whole road is iced over). I tried to correct and was doing well until the extra slick part ended, and abruptly threw the back end around to the other side. Again, I began correcting, but I'm oscillating pretty bad at this point; I'm in a full slide and I'm not slowing down. The truck fish tails back to the left, and I'm completely sideways, front tires at full lock in the direction of travel. I start to drift off to the right of the road and eventually go into the snow bank at around 50 mph.

I think the snow bank actually saved me. I probably plowed 25 yards sideways through it, up on two wheels. It acted like a soft barrier, rapidly slowing me down yet lacking the friction to flip me. When I came to stop, I was still up on two wheels packed against the snow. I shifted in my seat, and the truck dropped back down on all four wheels. Pretty crazy. In the picture below, you can see the level where the snow came up on the door.

    TruckStuck_zps310def59_540e7df87b5ecc754bbcad4f3f752d1c63af39e4.jpg

I get out to inspect the situation and remembered it's -35F; Oh Alaska. I spent about an hour digging out with the help of a lovely woman who stopped to help. Eventually a gentleman in a truck pulled me out and I went on my way.

    TruckUnstuck_zpsf3c7e9b7_70e3f30b5d85055cbc70ad36bbb8df3305933975.jpg

I drove the the Toyota dealership to get the truck checked out - just in case - but they were closed. So I crawled under there myself to give it a look. I found this:

    ShockLoose_zps84395f6b_c49e3d7b6887ba9107aa10ba08f6caf45c1d979f.jpg

The shock wasn't connected to my axle. I'm guessing it wasn't properly torqued when I installed my lift and it came out. I don't think the slide could have done that. It might have contributed to the slide though. The picture was taken at a Napa Auto Parts store as I was trying to buy a replacement bolt.

I think it happened earlier because of the amount of paint scrapped off the shock. The lift has only been on for about a week.

    ShockOffSide_zps30c545a2_93aace5e5310b32fb220c96bfee695ffb1269a49.jpg

    ShockOffBottom_zps074ca0d7_04baaa369a2bd5cd5ad8115764d292990f6d2876.jpg

I closely inspected the shock and didn't see any real damage. I took it off, repainted it, and reinstalled it. Hopefully it is good to go. I made sure it was properly torqued and I used a locking nut this time. I had the truck up on the lift at the Auto Skills Center at Ft. Wainwright for over 2 hours inspecting it for possible damage; I didn't find anything but the shock. The truck drove fine back to cabin, so hopefully everything is okay.

It sure could have been a lot worse, that's for sure. I'll know to slow down from here on out. I will be installing Duratrac's tomorrow (my wheels will finally arrive in the mail!), so that should help alleviate the traction problem as well.

I hate to say it, but I don't think a .45 round went off and blew a magazine into your tire.

Did you find the casing or the Bullet?

You ran over the magazine and it punctured the tire I could believe that. I have found a screwdriver inside my tire, Handle First. I didn't know what it was ( the screwdriver blade was worn off ) until I pulled it out about 3 inches and it wouldn't come out any more. Dismounted the tire and saw the handle inside the tire.
