    The tough issue is your only real option with Toyotas is the older ones for a solid axle, but then you have a carb (unless 85 of course) but even still, no powah! :D so you gotta do some sort of upgrade lol

    Yeah, then the whole not wanting the terrible 3.0 but not wanting a 2.7 either. So then you jump a few years so you can get the 3.4. then you have to SAS anyways haha

    IMO..they make trail trail trucks(by trails i mean what we have been doing for trails, not say helldorado) and good LT trucks.

    no rock crawlers.

    look a Jon haha he destroyed a perfectly good truck and when he is done..will barely have anything that resembles a tacoma..haha

    Jerry's i bet will end up with a crap load of body damage eventually.

    Why i decided to just go race truck status :p it'll still do all the trails we have been doing which are really fun and take us great places. But also let me go supa fast on some fun roads in Wy and lord knows where else.:burnrubber:

    Mark still basically DD's his. He can't ride the bike half the year and we'll see if he gets it up and going by summer...

    And that I understand, but my whole point was that we aren't just going up to larger tires to feel like we have a bigger penis than others. We can push our rigs harder and break them and not be SOL. I don't know. I guess I have just gotten tired of the whole, "35's are stupid and you don't ever need anything bigger than a 33" sphiel that I seem to find over and over and over again on this site... If the 2" jump from 33's to 35's makes little to no difference than none of us would have went from stock to 33's. Sure it takes a bit more work to fit the 35's but if you are willing to do that work then no big.
    Eh. The engineering side of me loves to see what things can do. Particularly just how far I can push things and where their limits are. Telling me something is a bad idea usually just encourages me.


    Besides, it all comes down to how much skill and/or money you have.

    Linked and locked front and rear on 41's. There aren't may rigs around that this Tacoma can't follow. haha Hell there was a Tacoma on Top Truck Challenge this year.

    mine is still my dd. i just have a back up dd for the spring and summer. but regardless, still my dd. if my truck gets seriously jacked up, im also pretty fucked

    i want to build my truck for more difficult trails, and i knowingly take that risk because thats what I have fun doing and thats where I want to do with my truck. i just have to know where the limit is so i dont do something dumb, like flop it

    and i COMPLETLEY disagree that tacomas are a terrible platform to build a rock crawler out of. 100%. the only thing that "comes with an axle" is a jeep, and guess what if you are truly building a rock crawler...you replace those factory axles anyway! Not every rock crawler needs to be a jeep, and every extremely capable rock crawler did not come factory with an axle. there are a number of reasons a tacoma is a great platform...VERY reliable engine and drive train, HUGE after market support, small and nimble size, ideal wheel base IMO in the 1st gens, i could keep thinking of reasons but I dont need to.

    when i build my truck im following the "under engine over axle" rule. so this is still a great platform for me!

    I guess I should have added the fact that I plan on staying IFS and just crawling with it. haha More fun. I saw a few Truggies/buggies in Moab when we all went and they just seemed to make it so easy it takes all the fun out of it.

    there is no reason to go to the extent jon has to build a very good rock crawler. he is clearly building a custom buggy at this point, he just didnt realize that when he started. thats an aweful example.

    i also dont understand the trail truck thing. doesent every truck start out as a trail truck before the owner decides its time to step it up? I mean what truck COMES build to rock crawl (except the most high end jeeps, and only kind of)

    rock crawling is not something ANY truck is built to do, so you have to take a good platform and make it. which as I said the tacoma is a great platform. there is a reason so many people do turn them into crawlers
