    Therein lies the problem though, not everybody wants a Jeep, even though by the time you've turned it into a true buggy it's not any brand specifically anymore haha Some people just want that Toyota starting point for some reason :notsure:
    I can see that. This is why I just want kind of an Expo(I know there's not a specific standard for this) trail rig that can get me where I want to go and still provide some comforts for camping.

    yea prefect rigs for really that whole trip. Comfy, carry lots of gear. Reliable..all the good stuff. And no major problems...other then me...and Frankenstein doesn't count as he is just a diva usually..lol

    but..still..RACE TRUCK! haha will happen..


    i think Ben meant more like..just build a buggy from scratch..you can still use the tacoma drive train...and wheel base..jsut build a total custom frame..cab..all that jazz.

    Really? i can think of..like..5 good examples of true "crawler" tacomas..

    no way would a subaru be faster haha be rough as shit..or make it up poughkeepsie :p haha

    but most the roads could be done in a basic 4x4. We saw plenty.

    but same things, tacoma: comfortable, reliable...ect..ect..

    Exactly. I had way more fun on 33's with Icon's than in the current configuration. You can just point and shoot with LT locked front and rear where you really have to think with a less capable rig. I really have to try hard to get stuck. Even in deep snow, I have to do something really dumb to bury it. Sure, it could use more power and bigger tires....but I should have started with a few hundred feet of tubing and an LS7, not a new tacoma.

    This!^^^ Almost every rock crawler out there running something bigger than 40's was cut to pieces and built into what it is. The only vehicles that come with axles under them big enough to handle 40's and up at way to long to be crawlers and they have very little travel anyway and to gain more travel involves cutting all the factory suspension off to go to longer leafs/links to gain good amounts of travel.

    Anything running under 40's you can take Username's rig and likely keep up with it. Yes he has a lot of fab work put into his (because it's built to fly), but just to crawl 37's and gain some travel you only have to bolt some things onto a 2nd gen to have a decent crawler. Hell I am on 33's and mostly keep up with guys on 37's.

    Start with an F250 or Dodge 2500. Then you'll have good axles to start with haha :rolleyes:

    what if I dont want a dam buggy though? i want to still feel like im driving my taco. if i want to rock crawl it doesent take hacking the truck into 10000 pieces to throw tons on it, with leaf springs and some 40" tires. bet i could walk through most of the trails in bfe with tons and 40-42s. and thats what i ultimately want with it

    see way to fucking big, ill take the axles out of it, but i dont want the body or frame

    yea haha the 22res aren't much better sound wise. My old 86 was hilarous. Sounded like it was reving 1234928357394853 rpms and was only doing...10mph..haha


    yea the carbs don't like off camber..haha or starting in the freaking cold.

    I am not interested in 'conquering' helldorado.

    You remind me of my friend Mark. He does not understand why I would want to reinforce my frame. He feels it is not necessary. From his perspective, carrying an ice chest and a spare tire is the only thing required out on the trail. He would never put on a bed rack and RTT. Or hang a spare tire carrier off the back with spare fuel and water. His idea of a wheeling trip is very different from mine.

    From my perspective, the things you guys will have to do to your rigs just to be able to run tires bigger than 33s is just not worth it. The compromises you will have to make are too great.

    For me, the trail is not the destination, it is a segment of the journey. I want my rig to be dependable first and foremost. I want to be able to drive it on the interstate as easily as the dirt two track though the mountains. Everything I do to my rig is with that in mind.
