ya serious? of course i know that. that toy axle cant hold up 37s+ though without some serious upgrades though. so again, you are back replacing a factroy axle, so the way i see it i wouldnt start with an 85 or older because if i wanted to build it i would replace both axles, suspension on all 4 corners, and the steering. so what good was starting with an old truck in the first place?
it all depends on how rough of course. all im saying is if you only argument is that tacoma are good at exploring crap than any 4x4 can do that about as well.
you ever just read through pirate? there are tacoma builds for days! what is a true rock crawler anyway? and for every one that has a build thread there are 25 that dont.

No... WTF does that have to do with that?... I see what you are getting at with it, but no. I mean within conventional limits. I have people tell me all the time that trucks can't do this or that and I go do it. Shit I have pictures and video of my rig on 5100's and several feet in the air.

I'm not so curious that I want to go through on some extremely unpractical thing like square tires and see what I can do. I want to through LT on a truck and go take it though Helldorado or some shit. I want to have a rig that isn't just a trailer queen, that can do both gnarly rock crawling and yet still glide out through the whoops. I like to take things that can do something and then see just how far I can push it at doing its thing.

Like Mark said earlier about all rigs starting as trail rigs. That is because not very many people have the money to just build their rig in one shot. We do it in steps, one piece at a time so they start out as something and slowly involve into what we are aiming for.

look, the thing that it boils down to, is that none of you guys actually enjoy rock crawling like brady or I do, so almost anything associated with it is stupid to you guys. Cant blame ya i guess.

its easy for you ben to say building a tacoma into a rock crawler is freaking stupid because you dont enjoy it nor would you ever do it to your own rig.

But it's not. It's because we all have to build our rigs 1 step at a time because none of us are loaded. You chose to buy tires over gears, just like I chose suspension over tires right now, if we had the money we each would have done both at the same time.

if there is one thing we should have learned is that "cheap" being the foundation of your build is not the best way to do it. why the hell would i want to start with an old full size pile of shit truck? the full size piles of shit did horrible on ttc. pepe in the taco kicked ass in ttc! like whooped those stupid full size things over and over.
 thats just a comical image

 There's a fine line between the two clearly. I don't want to make it so easy that I can just walk through everything no problem, but with my current setup I can't even get into Helldorado without getting high centered. At least with 37's I should be able to attempt every trail I come across.

Sometimes I like to think about what I would do if I had unlimited amount of money to spend on a Tacoma.... Haha

I'd go and find the Tacoma with the lowest miles, have it be 4 linked and set up to run 35's and just have it be the ultimate "expo" truck.

no ben, you dont. you have admitted that over and over that you dont. its obvious lol

and how in any conception of reality is building a tacoma into a rock crawler like using a square tire? that just makes no sense at all

    thats probably true..haha

pretty much..i have settled for a bit miss comfort on the hwy tho...haha for the moment..

no you don't..haha realistically..its a $3-4000 commitment. Cause you'll need 5 new tires..big bucks..and then regear...big bucks..and might as well throw in a front locker while your at it..big bucks..

plus..SHIT load of hard work. It was NOT easy to do.

and then there is the issue of CVs..spider gears..ect..

im not sure Mark is gonna be able to move with 35s on :p haha

and i enjoy crawling mark..so does mike and ben..did a lot of it last summer..just not as extreme...i however..fancy da go fast part more..

4 link can't hold weight for shit.

OH FUCK ME DONT GET ME STARTED ON THAT EXPO SHIT OH MY GOD

nothing against you expo goons i love you guys...but you dont need freaking links to do expo! if you are actually using the links to their potential you are certainly not expoing! you are fucking rock crawling at that point! the most stock tacoma to the most built crawler can be expo. expo is a shortened word for "i can pack a bunch of camping gear into my 4x4 efficiently"

Yes I do! Haha What makes you say that?

I'll need to get 5 new tires eventually either way. Planned to regear and throw in a front locker anyways. Need to get a new set of cv's anyways as well. And by the time I need new tires I will have the means of being able to sit down and do this.

Haha I knew somebody would get annoyed. Don't know why it bothers you nor do I care. That was the whole point of me saying if money wasn't an issue. I want to do an "expo" rig now, but I'm obviously not going to go and SAS and link the dang thing.

    Calm down bud.

and then snap cvs 1/3 of the way through.

thats my only problem with your plan.

so then you need those 1000 dollar cvs, then you blow apart your diff.

so your best bet is one of them 1 ton center diffs that go out to cvs, which is actually what batman wants haha. or at least he did last year in moab
