Someone at my work was looking around for a Tacoma. They were telling me some of the used prices were higher than what I paid new for mine. I paid 28k for mine.

They're so popular around here it's hard to find a new 4.0 4x4 for under $30k. Hell, even the used ones are around $25k on the dealer lots. I was looking at an Access Cab TRD Offroad that the sticker price was just over $33k on. I was half-seriously haggling with them about it (needed a truck, and at that point I was seeing how low I could get them on a new one to see if it was worth looking for a used one). I'd worked them down to just under $30k when some fool comes walking in and announces that he's interested in the same truck.
Negotiations on price went downhill from there. The sales guy wasn't willing to budge any more on price or accessories, since he knew he had another one on the hook.

I hear ya! Let someone else take that initial depreciation hit and pay the first group of excise tax payments.

Hardy har har... Hey, my last one wasn't a TRD so I'm due, right? :)

The sales manager where I bought the Ford used to be the sales manager at Bernardi Toyota, which I think helped me out. He knew how well the Tacomas hold their value so I got a good trade value, also recognized there was a lot on my truck that doesn't come on a factory SR5 (backup sensors, heated mirrors, the TRD wheels, color matched stuff, etc). I bought my truck for $26k in 2007 and got $16k in trade and they said they were going to wholesale it, not even try to sell it on their lot. That means in they have $16k into mine, will sell it to a whole saler for more, someone else will have to buy it again and resell it so I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up on a lot somewhere for $18-$19k! One thing you can't take from Toyotas, they do hold their value.

That's why I bough new instead of used. The used ones were only slightly cheaper with 30k or more miles on them.

I did the same but I had a plan going in. I went truck shopping the week before Christmas during a big snow storm. The dealer I went to had one 2007 left on the lot, all the rest were 2008. They took quite a bit off the sticker, gave me decent money for my trade and a low financing rate.

I don't remember the exact amount, but it was around $1100.

Awesome music! That's what kind of music it is!

    It's rock/post hardcore/punk/progressive. They dubbed it "intellipunk".

It'll be on iTunes by the 31st hopefully!

See, I bought used instead of new because I found a truck that was only 3 years old with only 44k on it for $10k less than a new one. The depreciation of $3k per year was more than I was willing to eat. My '10 drives the same as the 2013 I was looking at, and it cost me a hell of a lot less to buy and register it, and a bit less to insure.

At the time I looked, a 2005 wasn't all that much cheaper than a 2008.

No, the feds used our money to do it..and GM dug their hole with a poor product and then letting the customer, the reason they exist, take the fall.

    ....

We clearly have very different definitions of the word "awesome"
And also of the word "music"

I should also note I bought my 2008 in March of 2008, so maybe the price was lower due to 2009s being out or out soon.

My 10 was about 16.5k, but I got 6500 for my colorado. For under 7k miles I'm okay with that since I'd put that on in 4-5 months.

Yes, this is true. I found the same thing with 04's that were nearly as much as 08's.

Holly shit that's expensive for a 08! RI is such a corrupt state! And to think they call Mass - Taxachusetts.

I think my dad pays less in Bellingham for a fully loaded RAM.

Individual cities and towns do the taxes in RI now, not the state. My taxes would actually be cheaper in Newport than Woonsocket lol.
