2014 DCSB 4x4 Off Road V6 Auto. Final assembly at TMMTX in San Antonio, TX, with 70% US parts content: engine, transmission, frame and body made in US.

The median salary for a Toyota USA assembly line worker in 2008 was $30/hour, plus benefits. That is likely higher now.
    http://www.manufacturing.net/news/2008/12/gm-vs-toyota-wages-and-benefits

The median salary for a Toyota Mexico worker is about $2.50/hour [by comparison, Canada is "the most expensive place to build a car in the world."]

Yet the US and Mexican made Tacoma cost the same. Guess where the difference went... By purchasing a foreign assembled vehicle from a foreign owned manufacturer, one is contributing to both the trade deficit and current account deficit.

This was interesting, sadly so many things or should I say most things we buy these days are imported as we've lost the opportunity to even be able to buy something made in the U.S. on many products. Most parts of the Mexico made Toyotas are made in the U.S. just like all the other Tacomas, Mexico being the final assembly. Hopefully Toyota will see that many are starting to recognize the importance of local jobs to the American public. Though when I bought my first Toyota PU in 1986 it was all Japan, so I think we've done pretty good, but there's always room for improvement.

Yes, and US owned manufacturers like GM, Ford, Chrysler (even though FIAT owns a controlling interest in Chrysler) and even Polaris all build vehicles in Mexico. Regardless of where your Toyota was built, the many US subsidiaries of Toyota (and Honda and Nissan) employ tens of thousands of US workers. The TMMBC plant in Tijuana has been consistently praised for quality and won recognition in '08 from JDPowers and Assoc. It produces only V6 DC models of the Tacoma, but produces the composite beds for ALL Tacoma production including that of the San Antonio, TX, plant.

The problem is that Toyota is competing with the domestics, who are getting bailouts and government subsidies, and turning around, fighting against the unions, and sending work outside of our country.

In the end it doesn't really matter where your money goes, you can just be sure that it isn't going to come back around any time soon. Corporations, investors and executives aren't putting money back into our economy, regardless of wether they are US based or not. Sure, they may open up a new plant, but you can bet they are going to pay the absolute lowest wages they can, and the worst benefits they can. All while collecting taxpayer money because they put a plant there. Then after a few years, they will threaten to move the plant unless they get bigger tax breaks, at the same time they are getting record profits, keeping wages behind inflation and slashing benefits.

Here in Washington, we spend more money every year giving Boeing tax breaks than we do on education.
