    Alright I got my answer for the reasons for the 2.7 and I completely understand. like I said before I have a 2.7 and love the motor, definitely a proven workhorse.

    No... it was a acceleration test run with the tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer.

    In my area any V6 model worth my time in options was about $5k more then a similarly equipped 4. I also wanted the manual and wasn't impressed with the 6 speed when I test drove it. Everyone has their own reasons I'm sure.

    heres my reasons ........ Toyota is known for building indestructible 4 cyl motors, not v6s (excluding a few with a j in the code). Thats the main reason i bought the 4 banger. Also they are very simple to work on, require very minimal maintenance, have a much better/stronger manual drivetrain then the v6 model and can get much better gas mileage. I also just like 4 cyl motors. The power of the v6 is cool. Thats it. I rock crawl my truck too and no v6 power is gonna help me over my 4 cyl power. At least it sure aint been proven to me yet.

    A 4 banger aint for everyone but its damn sure the motor for me

    Well haven't seen anything on the tacoma yet but i have read that alot of people will think we will see one real soon with the new 2015 colorado and canyon coming out.

    Isn't our 2.7 the biggest commonly available 4-banger?

    I ran the 2.5 'Iron Duke' GM boat anch...erm, engine for many years in a variety of grocery-getters. There's something to be said for "Not fast, not flashy, just get me there and back and sip the gas".

    Really, I've not seen many engines that can match the mix of weight, power, reliability, torque, AND fuel economy. There's plenty that can do some. Not many come close to all.

    I honestly can't see how someone would DISlike this powerplant, unless all they know is the shitty version of the automatic.

    a 2.7 is scraping the limit of a 4 banger. There is a 2.8L v6 and numerous 3.0 v6s

    Hell yea there's smaller V6s. My wife had the shitty 2.5 v6 in her old 626 for 11 years. Great performance, shit gas mileage.

    I was just thinking of the big 4s. ARE there any really common 4s bigger?

    I don't believe that. A 3.0 v6 of similar design with an aluminum block and heads would gain you similar weight and has a huge potential for massive amounts of power compared to a bored tha fuck out 4 banger. If this were the case then Porsche and other companies a like would still use little baby motors

    That's kinda my point. Instead of using a huge v6, they go with a small v8. I wish I worked for them to tell you why though. :p

    This...
    And in a standard cab where the vehicle weight is lower the 2.7 inline four is perfectly adequate even if you pull a light trailer now and then.

    But for the heavier double cab body and/or the additional weight of 4WD and the better low end torque of the V6 makes makes it nice.

    I got the acess cab 4x4 version, $22,487 OTD. So base, I had them install the cruise control and I we each paid half the cost (me and the dealer). I had a keyless entry installed for $140 bucks, and put on the receiver hitch myself.

    Also, at 20,000 miles on the ODO, the engine has broken in nicely, with plenty of torque for its size.

    I think price could be a factor.. I paid 21,500 for 2012 5spd,4x4, sr5 model and access cab.. used with 8,000 miles out the door. I could not find a used (certified) v6 4x4 Tacoma anywhere under $28,000. For a 4 cylinder it meets my needs.
