Snow today! Parking lot play and still could not get it to turn back on once off. The truck went no where, just spun when off.

We have plenty of snow on the ground and got new 5-6" last night so I figured I'd go try it out. Kind of hard to find a snowy parking lot though. Most places have them plowed already.

I've only had my tacoma about 6 weeks or so. All this was in 2Hi. First, without any changes, I started from a standstill and punched it straight ahead. The VSC light came on and I could feel it kicking in. Cool. Then I clicked the VSC button once. VSC Off and Auto-LSD came on. I did the same thing, punched it straight ahead. A little more slipping but it still grabbed but more right, left, right, etc. than with the VSC on. The I put it in park and held the VSC button in. TRAC-Off displayed. I punched it straight ahead and it spun like my old Chevy 1500 used to.

Then I did donuts in the 3 different states. VSC on - surprisingly good traction. I could definitely tell when it was kicking in. Single press of VSC button - not bad traction but less smooth when the LSD kicked in. More skidding. Last press and hold the VSC button, TRAC-Off - skidded all over the place. Even when I stopped accelerating it wanted to continue to whip the back end around. Lots of fun. I did probably 7 donuts like this. Some from start off and some after spinning one way and starting the other direction. In this short test the VSC did not re-engage. Not taking sides, just giving another data point.

I learned a little about my truck doing this. Interesting thread (in places :)).

Good to know on the automatic as I'm 6 speed, was wondering if that could play any role in re engaging. After today, I'll have to take the side of when its off, its off.

    Riddle me this :

If ESC / VSC is a mandated feature in new vehicles , do you think that they would allow it to be turned completely off by the driver or just lessen the sensitivity greatly ?

I would guess (but not sure) that the requirement is only that ESC / VSC must be installed, the same as the requirement that seat belts must be installed. But the owner may choose whether or not to use them. Interesting discussion.

Good detailed job. People that say it never is off should do a detailed experiment like that.

What's the point , when people post their experience of it kicking back on you just say they are incorrect because it hasn't been your experience

All you say is "It's never off", no details. We've seen detailed reports that say when it's off, it's off. Post some details.

I've had mine kick on when it has been turned off , and I've said that over multiple threads , how exactly do you want me to detail that for you ? You just haven't experienced it , and neither have others , that is your experience with the system , mine has been different than yours , fucking deal with it

When, under what circumstances? What mode were you in? Just saying "I've had mine kick on when it has been turned off" doesn't mean jack crap.

Details, most people understand that simple conception. When, where, why? Most people understand that.

I wasn't aware there was more than one mode where VSC is " OFF " completely

Push and hold for 5 seconds at a stop until AUTO LSD goes out leaving only VSC OFF illuminated

    ie VSC OFF MODE

I think it was a Thursday around 5:00 pm in December the first time , oh and there was approx 3" of snow on the ground , white

    I was driving North Northeast

Alright, here we go again. 2012 plus models, there's differences compared to 2012 minus models.

2012 plus, there has to be two lights lit on the instrument panel to have open differentials, there's a "TRAC OFF" light AND a "VSC Off" light that has to be lit (the squiggly symbol) to have true open differentials.

You still didn't say what circumstances you were in, nor what drive mode you were in, that would be helpful.

VSC on - "squiggly OFF" is not lit.
VSC off - "squiggly OFF" is lit.
TRAC on - "TRAC OFF" is not lit.
TRAC off - "TRAC OFF" is lit.
    Auto-LSD on - "Auto-LSD" is lit.
Open differential(s) - Both "squiggly OFF" and "VSC OFF" are lit, "Auto-LSD" unlit.

2WD (either 2WD models or 4WD models) default mode: VSC on, TRAC on.
2WD (either 2WD models or 4WD models) briefly pressing the "VSC OFF" switch: VSC off, Auto-LSD on.
2WD (either 2WD models or 4WD models) HOLDING "VSC OFF" switch down: VSC off, TRAC off, Auto-LSD off. Open differential.
4HI default mode: VSC on and TRAC on.
4HI briefly pressing "VSC OFF" switch: VSC on, TRAC off.
4HI holding "VSC OFF" switch down: VSC off, TRAC off. Open differentials.
4LO default mode: VSC off, TRAC off.

    That's from David K's thread http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...-lsd-explained-easy-understand-i-hope-67.html

Which is awesome but mind bending in the details. The bottom line is there's some differences in the trucks at the 2012 models.

I was in VSC OFF mode , once in 2WD and once in 4HI

FWIW , I don't think it matters if you are in 2WD or 4HI as far as the VSC OFF mode is concerned

My fault DoorDing, had you confused with someone else from this thread:http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/269922-f-g-abs-almost-killed-me-17.html

I'd still like to see some "data points" from OZ. There's nothing but "I was in snow". What, 2WD, 4WD, what, give some details.
