GMC launched the new Canyon at the Detroit auto show this week. The truck looks great and has everything that a new Tacoma needs.

I am in the market for a new truck and unless Toyota shows me something before the new Canyon goes on sale this fall I will be buying the GMC.

I love my Tacoma, but don't want another truck just like the one I have. I don't think I'm the only one and suspect a lot of Toyota owner will move to the Canyon/Colorado unless Toyota ups their game, Hopefully this new competition will force them to do so.

The GM may look nice and have the bells and whistles but is it going to last? GM has a history of building nice looking junk.

    This^^^^^

Go ahead and buy one, don't forget to stop off for lottery tickets on your way back home.

Just my humble opinion. I'd buy a full size Chevy/GMC; but I'd want to see how the new midsize entry does for 2 or 3 years before putting my money in one.

My father-in-law's 2009 Chevy Colorado, which only has 130k miles, had its throttle position sensor suddenly go bad last week without warning. An indicator light for low-traction came on, and the truck went into limp home mode, from what he described. He had it towed to the dealership to get it fixed. The repair cost a little less than $1000, between replacement of the throttle position sensor and the charcoal canister evaporator sensor/valve that we ill-attempted to fix over the summer. I normally step in and try to fix things on that truck for him, especially when it comes to basic bolt-off-bolt-on sensors, but it was too cold last week and there was no time.

He was looking at the new Colorado (Canyon) with semi interest a few weeks ago, but hopefully this experience will convince him to look to Toyotas from now on. That truck is a piece of garbage...but at least the tailgate weighs 80 pounds and makes that metal on metal clank sound when its slammed shut (sarcasism).

I was talking trucks with some guys the other day and heard about nothing but problems with the new Chevy trucks. I wouldn't touch one, I don't think Toyota has much to worry about.

Begone, he who is not worthy of tacomaworld. Let's give that truck a couple years and see how it pans out.

Stay away from first year production. The new redone full size GM trucks have been recalled twice already and they have only been out for a few months. They should get it right after 3years of production.

    Well....Bye

Buy the GM and tell us how it is because we all know their reliability is legendary.

    This,

Also how long has the Tacoma been the best selling truck in its class? Oh yea since the second GEN first came out in 2005.

EDIT: fixed for those who have comprehension issues.

 Was not aware of this ... My previous statement is withdrawn; I would not buy any new Chevy/GMC.

    Hold that door Britt.

Yeah, and the most recent recall is because the exhaust system can cause the trucks to catch fire! http://www.kjrh.com/money/consumer/...gmc-sierra-2014-model-trucks-due-to-fire-risk

Years ago I had a Honda Pilot and was on a Pilot forum. When the GMC Acadia was introduced we got the same 'I'm done with Honda' threads like this one. It was quite entertaining to see some of those guys come back when their Acadia started giving them problems. On top of the problems those guys couldn't believe that their 3 year old Acadia that they had paid $35K for was only worth $12-13K on a trade!

As others have said Good Luck.

I like my resell/trade in value and the service that I have always gotten from Toyota.

But at the end of the day, it's your vehicle. You buy what you like

Did nobody actually read the article?

'Midsize pickups, which traditionally provide less towing capacity but more fuel efficiency, accounted for less than 1.7% of overall U.S. automotive sales last year.'

Not that big of a market to begin with......Pretty sure Toyota will be just fine.

I'm curious what software coding is causing the fires when truck is left idling.
