Differential Breather Mod for Dummies (Pics)

Found these fittings at AutoZone for $3.99

1/8 in. MNPT x 3/8 in. pipe thread male connector fuel hose fitting


1/8 in. MNPT thread 1/4 in. i.d. hose size brass fuel hose fitting

 

Sub'd! Will be doing this on my 2013.

 

So these are instead of the more expensive fittings from the stealership

 

just found my weekend project.

 

One of them might work, but you still need the breather from the stealership.

Yea, I'll get one. Gonna temporarily use the stock one on the end of the hose.

 

is the part one the fist post the good one ?? i got a 2012 TRD off road and there already a rubber tube running from the rear diff to somewhere under the fuel tank do i need this mood ?!?! sorry

 

The point of the one from the dealership is that it breathes both ways and doesn't build up pressure on the axle seals. Getting the breather higher up is just one part of this mod. The other part is letting the cool and hot not affect the axle seals by using the other breather that actually lets it breathe.

 

Sounds like it's already done follow the rubber tube and see what's on the other end of the hose. Yes, the parts in the first post are good.

 

there's only a plastic cap on the rubber tube end ?!?

 

Ok too many part numbers being thrown around for me to keep track of..so wat are the correct part numbers for the union and 2 way breather? Just trying to simplify thanks

 

Toyota Part numbers:

90930-03136 (Breather Union)

these are the part numbers that i used when i ordered it
for my truck. had no issues

 

exactly really easy easy mod to do. i think in total took me about 20 min.

I personally did not like to route the breather to the gas cap.
so i routed mine up behind the tail light, no drilling needed at all.
just strapped it up to the frame behind the tail light.

its a very high point and hounestly if water gets up to that point
to drown the breather i have bigger problems to deal with than
getting water in the diff.
