Most of the replies to my thread are what I expected from people on a Tacoma board. First let me say my first choice in a new truck would be a Tacoma for all the reasons you mention. But to say all GM products are bad is just not true. I have owned several GM products including a 1996 GMC Jimmy and never had one problem with it. I know lots of guys with Chevy trucks and they are very happy with them.

If Toyota would just offer all the options on the current truck that they offer on the Tundra that would be a major step forward and why they won't put the 260 HP motor in the 4 Runner in the Tacoma is beyond me.

Hopefully this new GM truck will push Toyota to up their game on the Tacoma.

FUCKING SCIENCE! Now where is that chick that got me banned?

It will probably happen with the 3rd gen.
Theoretically the market should not increase because you added more options to it. What this means is the market that Toyota has been dominating is going to now be divided yet again due to the addition of the model line from GM. But they should still dominate it.

Amen right there! That is the point I am always trying to press.

If this is all that is truly in the production of the Canyon, then I agree there are several options that I would like to see in the Tacoma. Sure, I agree I love my Toyota, and I think it is a great truck. Everyone knows that I figure by now. That being said, GM is raising the bar with standard locking rear diff, and a 302HP NA engine, as well as a diesel option.

There are a LOT of people who love the idea of having a diesel, and this could turn the sales a little bit. Sure Toyota has the dominated market. They did a GREAT job. I do however think they need to take notice here and SERIOUSLY offer a diesel, a better powered V6, and locking rear diff on their next year model. Even if they keep the same design.

GM looked like they copied the Tacoma to make the Canyon. I would not buy a Canyon or a GM or a Dodge or a Nissan or a Mitsubishi Truck period.

I am patiently waiting to see the new restyled Tacoma. Hopefully it will be in 2015.

Well dodge and nissan are the same thing, just a different body. What about Nissan coming out with the cummins? That should make those Titans more enticing.

I wonder how well my 2013 Baja will hold its value over the next 4 - 5 years? I have mixed feelings because Toyota quit making which should help or will people pay more for the Baja package on a 5 year old used truck? I think one reason Tacoma's hold their value so well is the lack of competition. We will see if that changes.

What's with the big demand for a diesel engine?

I don't understand the people that state they would rather have a bland truck.. you can get it that way, but for the ones that want a few more features, we would like to have that option.. :(

I think it is that but most of all I think people know that 200k on a tacoma is normal.. they are just reliable vehicles and can take a beating

I'd rather have a bland as it will be cheaper for me to add all the things I want later on as I have the ability to do most of them on my own.:)

Not all diesel engines are created equal. Plus, diesel is a little $$. I do agree with the mileage, I had Dodge 2500 4x4 LB I'd get 18± mpg in the city. That's what my 2014 DCSB OR gets.

Just went to Phx. for the SX race with 5 passengers and got 17.9 at 85 mph (Tucson to Phx.)

Indeed they are not, as I used to work on them, but I would much rather have the D4D in my 5lug right now instead of the 2tr.

When I lived at sea level I had no demand. Now that I live over 5000ft and travel regularly to 12000 I would love the diesel option. My next vehicle will be a diesel whether it is a toyota or not.

How did they get a hold of a truck that is yet to be released? Let alone 4 of them?

I'm not sure why everyone is nut swinging on the deisel , it's realy not all that great . And 90% of taco owners don't haul heavy equipment . From what I see it's mountain bikes , dirt bikes and household needs . Just no need for it

Guys are bitching about getting 17-18 mpg with lifted 4x4 trucks . if you think that's bad , Try paying the extra $ for the deisel plus the additional maintaince costs .
