My only thoughts are that if I plan to lift in the future the vibration may come out. Its also entirely possible that it is vibrating but I just dont notice because I dont know what to look for.

I understand. Find a smooth road surface where you can drive 30-45. Slowly accel & deccel in this range. This is when I noticed mine; and switching to 4wd made it go away. Good luck.

Hi all, I have been trying to find a local (San Diego CA) shop that will install the ECGS bushing I bought with little success. Any suggestions, also any idea of cost?
    Thanks, alpinebob

I'm wondering about the BAJA series trucks that come with 2" lift. I'm guessing they don't have any mods to the front diff. I brought that up with the dealer and they had no answer for that but did deny me because of the lift??? I'm just curious because I know I have to do the bushing or ARB. It's just not that noticeable with duratracs humming along.

Same here. I am ordering a ecgs bushing soon. Why didn't they just put a ball bearing like the passenger side on the driver side.

I'd honestly just do it yourself. There's a really good tutorial on YouTube for it.

Installed the bushing today. Did it without removing the cv shaft. Just undid the tie rod, the lower ball joint and sway bar. Popped the shaft loose and pulled the spindle back far enough to tuck the cv shaft under the diff carrier. Worked well! Not a lot of room to hammer the bushing in, but got it done. Pic attached. Quiet so far! Thanks ECGS!

I have a few friends that work for Toyota (not a dealership, a regional office, they are district service managers). I asked them what the difference between the baja and standard truck were, or more specifically what did they do to the baja so it dosent do this (different control arms, cv axles, spindles etc.) They couldn't come up with anything.

Quite the shortcut. How much time did this method take?

Still took me a couple of hours, but I installed some 1/4" top plate spacers at the same time so it could have been quicker.

Were you able to check the surface of the input part of the CV shaft for damage (scoring of the bearing surface) If there is damage it mayl mess up the bushing. I had to replace my shaft after only 17K on the truck and 1K on the lift because scaring from the needle bearing.

I only had maybe 200 miles on the lift, it looked fine. This shortcut may not be the best route unless you are replacing the bushing at the same time as installing your lift.

This mentality confuses me. Instead of just replacing the bushing, most likely just once, at a realitively low cost, they replace an expensive entire front diff with the same design flaw. Likely to need replaced again later down the road.

Confused as well Nathan, I find it completely stupid of Toyota not to solve this problem and to be honest about it. Especially in view of their good reputation gained over many years for reliability and good engineering.
Possibly we need a letter/email campaign to wake them up???

Come on now. A permanent fix is not good business practice. In the long run 3 years after the warranty is up, think about the suckers paying 3500 for a new diff.
