Because with the 4cyl 3.0 liter diesel a 4x4 double cab gets 30+ mpg stock. Need I say more?

I have a 2007 with 54,000 and have had an 87,94,2000 and a 2001. I agree 10 years is long enough for just about the same truck except for a grill change. I would like to trade but agree that there is no reason to buy basically the same truck. The new Chevy/GMC's style looks nice inside and outside but it doesn't have a Toyota engine/drivetrain so I am not ready to switch horses for a pretty saddle.

When I was young and financially *really* stupid, I (f)leased an V6 reg cab S-10.

Check engine light came on because of a faulty sensor in the transmission within the first 3,000 miles. Dealer wanted to keep it a couple-three days because they had to take out tranny to fix it...and refused to give me a loaner car. This was back when I was in the military, and needed a ride to get on base by 6:00a, and had to stay there for watch shifts onboard my ship overnight every 7-10 days.

I traded that POS with the check engine light still on for a tricked out Mazda MX6 V6 with a stick, losing several thousand bucks in the process.

Will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever buy another GM product. My Check Engine truck 'shore did have a purty mouf', though.

VW car owners don't haul heavy equipment, or Smart car owners, or Audi owners. Why do they build them and why is there a demand, because they LAST LONG and are RELIABLE.

There is not more in maintenance for Diesel than gas. When I had my CUMMINS oil was every 7,000 miles and the fuel water filter from time to time thats it. Dont forget the water filter isnt an extra cost since you have no spark plugs to replace. For the added cost for fuel yes you do pay more, but you get more MPG. You pay less per mile so the fuel cost is irrelevant.

Around here diesel is always cheaper then 93 octane by about 10-15 cents. 93 octane is always .50 MORE then regular gas. I'll never own a mother bleeping thing that runs on 93 octane again! diesel I can handle though simply because our tractors all take diesel and we have a pump on the farm. Winning.

LMAO. Yeah, in the namesake state for the Chevy I don't see them taking too much of a market share, if any. They never have sold well, you see almost none on the road whereas there's Tacomas galore. If they would do one teeny thing to the truck they might get a bigger market share - just move the rear shocks out of the middle of the rear axle, mount them outboard like Toyota and Jeep. Having those shock mounts hanging down four inches in the middle of the axle waiting to be picked off is a showstopper.

I'll tell you why I got my Tacoma,,,

    This forum!!

I knew I did not want full size, looked at the options, found this site,
And can't stay away from it.

I'm not very mechanical, but I think that by researching and referring to this site for all the people who are more knowledgable and capable with the workings of the Tacoma,

Well,,, makes me apreciate it, a LOT !

    I have zero buyers remorse.

So I guess you are saying then that your Tacoma has never failed, never had a check engine light come on, or ANY other complaints? Now I get how you can get frustrated by a CEL light at such low mileage, but I have seen several Toyota vehicles have a CEL light just as fast. I have a customer who has a 4 runner, and he said the CEL came on right as he pulled off the lot from buying it! I will again say the same thing. MASS PRODUCTION VEHICLES all have their problems no matter WHO makes them.

If someone offered some time, they would have someones free time to burn waiting for the Toyota. I'd wait.

You have to figure in the initial extra cost for the diesel, plus the extra cost for fuel. I did the numbers a little while ago and I figured you'd have to go 100,000 miles before you got the intial cost back and the extra $$$ you pay for fuel.

Could be worth it for many people, the diesel is attractive for many reasons, especially for towing. Sure would be nice to have that lowend grunt.

A disel Tacoma would put the tundra and most dull size trucks out of their misery. I mean people would be clamoring to have a small diesel truck that can do serious work and get close to 30 mpg on a 5 speed transmission.

GM's after 3-4 yrs have check engine lights and other ridulous problems. Ex: ABS, transfer case, rust problems, bad Cats and the list goes on. Not impressed with the smoke and mirrors. I have a 2006 taco with 147k and only had to deal with normal wear items. I believe tht the Toyota has a good value and meets my expectations. Good luck shopping!!

Hey Bama . I have the part numbers on my old computer for the matrix i was talkling about .
I will dig em up . Maybe a Canada thing or perhaps pontiac vibe thing . Well known on the Matrix forum as being GM/ Pontiac parts rather than Toyota .I suppose the Delphi ECM you are talking about could have been boxed and bag /tagged as a gm part # . Same goes for the wheel bearings i suppose .
I am sure you know the wheel bearings I am talking about . The outer bearing hub and bearing race casted as 1 peice meaning you have no choice but to replace them if pitted because the outer race is part of the outer hub and you cant press it off . What a horrible design .
I guess what I am trying to say is that our newer Toyota,s are no longer the ricers they use to be .

Toyotas and GM's basically have the same wheel bearing. Especially if you're getting them from bamatoy.

I also like the cargo system in the bed. Seems like they have a factory rack that goes in the bed rails with kayak holders on top. I'm interested in the diesel, but wouldn't touch one until they reach 100k miles and we start seeing how reliable they will be. My dream vehicle is a 4x4 Taco with the D4D, nothing fancy.

True. A lot of the new diesel trucks have a sensor that detects the dye and it'll go into limp mode. We usually keep off-road and on-road diesel here on hand though.
