Even better, treat the driver side and don't treat the passenger side. Paint a stripe down the middle.

That would be an interesting experiment.

I WILL NEVER APPLY WD40 TO ANY PART OF MY TACOMA!!!!!!!!!!!! This stuff deteriorates rubber. All of you users that have applied WD40 to the rubber parts under the truck will gradually find out what I am talking about. Yea I bet it looks shinny and clean and is easy to apply but wait till the rubber componet gradually falls apart and see what you have then. To remove I would recommend repeated washing with a pressure washer car wash with soapy water.

    pass the word

Did my truck today took 3 cans o fluid film at 15$ each. I could have gone 4-5 cans if I had a lift and could easily see everywhere. But the majority of parts got soaked in it for shur.

Agreed. Or one side fluid film and the other this motorcycle oil. Still need a non-treated control though.

This. I just ordered a case from my local Amsoil dealer. Will treat both the truck and my Subaru when all the snow and salt is gone from the roads.

Give it a good hose down and let it thoroughly dry. What little dirt is left will stay under the coating plus the it'll be picking up dirt anyway when you drive it while the amsoil is wet.

I agree, that would be a much better test. The only problem is I don't want rust on either of the trucks. Maybe I should of tried two different products. I've been reading a lot of good idea's. Thank you all for the feedback.....

I've used both the Amsoil HDMP and fluid film. The fluid film lasts longer since it stays waxy. The metal protector wore off after about 9 months of snow, rain, and washing. I would choose fluid film.

I use the Amsoil metal protectant as well here in CT. Works great but not sure how often to apply it. My 2010 looks good underneath with the second winter since I have owned it in CT.

I just bought my 2010 and it has some areas starting to show rust. Most of it is just bolt heads and stuff and mostly in the engine bay. Will fluid film cut the rust and stop it from getting worse? I thought about getting a spot blaster to knock the rust off but not sure I want to do that in the engine bay.

Thanks OP for this. I just ordered 6 cans, I only wanted one for testing but after seeing some testing done think I might switch next year from Corrosion Free 3K to this. Will have to see how the tests work out.

The F-150's have the same frame rust issue we have. And those with Raptors have spent up to twice what we have for our Tacomas. There is a 29 page thread on the Raptor forum about clear undercoating and a lot of testing, looks like the HDMP is the best from the tests that have been done there.

Here is one of the pictures comparing FF and HDMP (and T-9) after exposure outside in Fl. after a couple of weeks in high heat and humidity.
    mphd_zps59c8a90b_bfb3a5fa871ce414c971ab1d692a720b62547b78.jpg

I have done similar testing but with fewer products than they used. The Canadian military did a lot of testing including some of those products and Corrosion Free 3000 came out at the top of the pack. They did not use HDMP or FF in testing. The picture above mirrors some of my limited testing with steel wool and brine solution (3 applications) so far over a months time comparing FF and CF3K.

Control (which has reached destruction, it separated)
    control_week4_zpsc29d29b9_a9d458a3fd12d68d9315927efb2f13aa4aa8b857.jpg

Fluid Film ("hole" rusted and blew threw it)
    FF_week4_zpsc2dfe6fd_a06e3c38e1f5c5b431e7f78f7b50eab4279456c6.jpg

    CF3K
    CF3K_week4_zpsadfd4542_295947efa1a18729d8b96423e60ad7a9dd6947d5.jpg

The thought on the other site is that FF doesn't adhere for long periods and washes off too easily. I have been rinsing the steel wool samples for 30 sec. each in tap water before applying brine solution to test exactly that, and it does appear that may be the case.

Once the HDMP comes in I will start a separate thread and do some more testing to include it. Thanks again for the heads up on this.

I was doing body work and painting cars back in the '80s
I do remember we had a waxing rustproofing substance we used before installing some panels, fenders, and we used a simple spray gun, basically a can with a nozzle, to shoot this stuff.
Sorry I don't remember any more details, as all that lacquer wiped out a good part of my brain that is used for memory.
I know a guy that ran his truck a lot on the beach, and he would spray his waste oil all over the undercarriage.

I am using some of the different marine based products.

Try looking at your local auto body supply shop

I just used a product called "Blaster Corrosion Stop" purchased in 11 oz. spray cans. On the can mentions that it: "prevents corrosion from..salt and chemicals, creates protective barrier", etc. Can be used on "automotive frames, driveshaft bolts, exhaust head", etc. I was in touch with the QA guy from the company regarding any problems with rubber components. He informed me the product is safe on rubber, etc. The product didn't necessarily leave a "waxy" coating, but a slick, translucent white residue. I'm not sure how long it will hold up. We'll see. For you guys who have tried FF and Amsoil product, during spraying, inevitably some of the product is going to get on exhaust system, etc. What happens to this? Does it basically melt/burn off?

I sprayed Fluid Film this past fall and it will burn off the exhaust. It does give off a smell, the Fluid Film smell, but I didn't find it obnoxious. The smell goes away over time. I will be respraying in the spring.

Had the Fluid Film applied at a local garage/dealer for $200 for the first time. No lift here so it was worth it to keep old bones off the concrete. They said come back next fall and they'll touch it up. Cheap insurance. If I had a lift, and a fleet of cars, I'd buy it in bulk.

We used a fluid film like substance on aircraft in the Coast Guard; very waxy. Good stuff.

Don't know if it was mentioned here, but I'm going to treat the inside of the tailgate too. I had the cover off to install a Pop-and-Lock and the inside of the tailgate is easy to reach and no doubt would benefit.
