Dealership, or Fastenal. Maybe a mechanic would do you a favor?

I called the local dealer. Parts dept. said they don't sell tools.

You could also call a local hardware store and see what it would take to get the piece. I know ACE isn't "local" but they are right around the corner from my place and if they don't have the piece, tool, set I am looking for they usually get it expedited in to the store at no cost to me. Makes me continually go back there even though Home Depot and Lowe's can be $1-$2 cheaper. Customer service will always win in my court.

Your POP & Lock has torx bolts as part of the installation?

Hell, I'd throw those things away and put regular bolts in. I hate torx bolts.

What type of torx is it? Button head? Square head? Flat head? Do you know the threads & length?

The Pop & Lock instructions say the screws on the access panel of Tacoma tailgate are T35 Torx screws. The Pop and Lock does not have Torx screws.

    Things I need to tow.
I'm not so sure they're T35's. I put one of these in and my $8 ratcheting screwdriver set from Harbor Freight had the correct size (at least one that fit).

Tip: Be careful not to strip any of the plastic thread inserts pressed into the tailgate. Also, have band aids available as someone on the production line sharpens the edges of the tailgate sheet metal during assembly.

Typically you can get by using a allen/hex key on them if you are in a bind. Use metric or standard to see which one fits best. If the bolts are tight or frozen do not use this method since it can strip out .

Must be some crap stores by you if they do not have a t-35 torx.

    No sears? Harbor Freight?

I agree torx is not all that helpful.

I went to Lowes, called Sears, Harbor Freight, the dealer and a couple of auto parts stores before posting this thread. They all carried the T30 and T40, but none carried the T35.

Just use the closest Allen that fits,it will turn, the inverts are only plastic, it will give, it's not frozen
